I love the photos of the come along moving the coop. Brings back memories of when I was a kid moving an old coop in the same fashion with my Grandpa. We didn't have skids so we had to use logs and timbers to roll it on. It was hard work but the memories are priceless.

Thought I'd give them a bit of free ranging. So I cut a hole on the west end of the secured run. I added a header and wrapped the wire fabric around the 2 x 4s

I couldn't find a "U" shaped channel iron, so I went with a flat iron, a 3/4" square tube (for a spacer) and another flat iron. This will allow the plywood guillotine door to side up and down. In this picture I have the slide lag bolted to the right side of the opening.

It took Lucky and some of his girls time to figure out there was a whole in their run.

The rest of the ladies weren't to sure about this!

While I'm figuring out how to make the door I'll used a temporally piece of plywood.

Eventually I want to put up a 4' fence around their "free range" area. I need to be able to open and shut the door without having to climb over the fence, I got and idea...

The Coon surprise is going to take awhile to put together because one key part is back-ordered

BUT the Son was home so we did a preliminary testing. Found one bug that will need to be resolved and learned that the coons show up after 2 AM.
Well????? <tick-tock-tick-tock> How long are you going to make us wait?

I love this thread! I'm also waiting on the coon surprise as we have one coon living under our shed and another in a storm drain in the front yard. I suspect raccoons are going to be a problem for us when we finally get our chickens in the fall.

Thank you so much for your delightful posts. I found this tonight while searching for something else entirely. I had to join just so I could continue to follow your progress. You have made all of this very fun and enjoyable along the way. My son and I cannot wait to see what your plan is for the coon.

Brilliant! I just enjoyed reading and looking at all 25 pages.
You built an excellent chicken run, everything so well thought out and cleanly done. I Love it.

Thank you for sharing/posting all those photos. I still have to build a run and I didn't really have a visual yet, but will be using your construction photos for reference.

I am building my coop from some photos I found on the internet and it is the exact same style coop as yours. This is my first experiment in building, found out I'm really good at making saw dust

Today I am planning on building and installing the trusses & windows. In the photo I've just temp. positioned the windows to give me an idea where to position them.

I am looking forward to enjoying reading more of your posts.

Free Range door painted and installed. This end of the run will be fenced so I will not have easy access. A bit of rope, pulley and "U" staples solves the open/close problems. Notice the loop tied in the end of the rope.

The loop tied at the end of the rope goes over a nail which holds the door open.
