From egg to chick!

Most people that ship, will shipped fully feathered, and even laying birds. That being said, a single serama in an LF flock will probably not end well for the serama. Go for at least a couple. @WoDia Have you kept your serama with your LFs?
I never keep Seramas with LF… ONLY with other bantams. That’s my preference, but other people may say different. I have kept GSB roosters with LF hens, and they’ve done well. I would NOT recommend keeping Seramas and LF together due to size alone. I’d be horrified seeing a LF rooster attempting to breed a teeny Serama hen. Also, any Serama would be subject to bullying, and I’m not willing to see them live in fear of the LF flock members. Others are going to disagree with me, but Seramas aren’t hardy like other chickens and special consideration needs to be taken into account for that.

I share your sentiment in this. I do have Lady Gaga in with my mix breed bantams, but I wouldn't put them with LFs. I personally don't think an LF male would try to mate with a serama hen (except for a very amorous, young male), but I wouldn't like to try. Maybe Elf can build a nice "serama castle" coop?

My Seramas do well with the Mille Fleur d’Uccles, Porcelain d’Anvers, Golden Sebrights, Silkie bantams, and bantam hybrids, but I won’t take the chance with LF. A teeny tiny Serama hen could be injured or worse by a very amorous, young LF male (as you said). I imagine other members do mix their Seramas/other bantams with their LF successfully. Not this girl though… I worry. I have a building (the Serama Chateau 🥰) built just for mine, so I can keep them separate. They have different winter temperature needs as well, so I can also closely regulate that. Agreed about Elf considering a building just for Seramas. The worrier in me makes me gasp when I see a micro and A-class hen being pursued by a bantam rooster! Such is the life of a Serama Mama!! ❤️

Since there was some talk about Serama crowing, I thought I’d add that mine can sound VERY loud. Amazing for such a tiny chicken, but they’ve got incredible lungs. I have crowing competitions going on all the time! ☺️

Serama Chateau, what a lovely name for their living quarters! I do think serama are more resilient than we sometimes give them credit for, it's just that like silkies, or feather footed breeds have their extra care requirements, serama have theirs. I'm lucky that I live in Greece, I don't have to do much more to mine than my other coops. I put more tarps around the pen in the winter, but that's about it. Another "extra" care requirement that I absolutely agree with is their compatability with LF birds. They're just too tiny to be housed together, IMO. I wouldn't really put a "regular" bantam male over a female serama. The life of a serama parent is definitely more worrisome, but is it worth it? Yes. A thousand percent

This. It's very high pitched, and I don't know how they do it, but it's almost constant. Two of Lady Gaga's sons are now crowing, it's a crowing frenzy down there!

They are so cute and pretty! I wish I could have some, but we have ran out of room and Seramas are too expensive. At least where I am, they cost about $20-$60 a chick.

I agree with you on not putting a regular bantam male with Serama hens. Those larger boys of mine have their own space. I have a few micro and A -class hens that always get extra care and protection… and currently are (fortunately for them) not with the flock. They’re on eggs, so they’re safe! One other thing I forgot to mention is that my tiniest are in a separate space much of the time due to being pursued by the males. It’s such a juggling act! Some do totally fine with the bantam males. Others get a bit frightened, so the mother in me always has a backup plan when they need a rescue. And yes fluffy, it’s SO worth it being a Serama parent! Your girls are really beautiful!!!! I love seeing them. ❤️
