From egg to chick!

Pics
Right? She is also a chonky girl (it's all feather though). I can tell a few babies who might be roos bc the tails are more arched compared to the other babies. No wattles on the others yet but they are still too little to tell right? Only one showing wattle progress is Pelican (first pic). The other 2/3 have tails that kinda look like a droopy V (see 2nd pic and bird on the very right).

Generally, bearded birds will show very little wattle, if at all. I have already said that the bird in the second photo is a boy, well turns out they both are. I remember you said that you sent the second bird to live with your neighbour, so that's good😆

Meh. Olive egger my butt! I know it's her now bc after the power came back on there were small black fuzz feather pieces stuck to it. Dang it. Lol. Maybe they will darken or something a bit? Maybe have a greenish hue? If not oh well. I would have to cross her with a blue egg breed right? Blue + brown = green?
Yes, crossed to a blue egg layer would give you some shade of green 🤩

There is a bad storm moving through, and it kicked the power off by the time we got home. Went outside to check on the babies with my flashlight. They are damp but fine. If the power stays off I will move them inside one of the bathrooms for the night simply bc it will drop down to 39 tonight. I will just have to put a roost bar over the tub and stick em in it.

ANYWHO!

I went to check on the babies. I was checking them out. Went to check the brood light and something roundish and shiny caught my eye the ground. I looked over and couldn't believe my eyes!!

An egg had appeared! No idea who though, but I assume Olivia. Yet the egg is brown 🤔 Either way! Enjoy this cute little teeny first egg.

Look how teeny!
Sorry I am late to the egg party, congrats on the first egg, always egg-citing!!! :celebrate

Chickens have wattles since they first hatch out of their egg, the same with their comb. Beards simply hide the wattles from your view, and breeds with beards typically have very small wattles to begin with. The chicken in the foreground of the second picture is a cockerel.

They have small wattles to purposefully make it hard for us to give them pills, I'm pretty sure that's why :idunno
