Good luck with learning all you can about chicks! Painted wooden floors work good in heat. That is what I use.

If you go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum, you can locate and post on your state thread. The people on there could best advise you on coops, flooring etc. for your locale.

Sand is a wonderful medium for flooring, especially in the heat. You can hose it down and it keeps the chickens cool. It is all I use..in the coops, runs and nest boxes!! It is easy to clean, stays dry, keeps the flys away, no offensive smells, and many times it contains tiny stones for the gizzards. Here is a link to a great thread on sand that you might like to look thru....

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your new chicks! X2, in Florida, sand is probably the way to go for footing in your coop and run.

Sometimes you have to help them out at first. Lure them in with food, physically put them in, etc...until they figure it out. It can take time. :-)
