Sorry we keep going back and forth, our neighbor had ducks and insists because he had to use heat lamps in the winter and it unfortunately caught fire.

What kind of ducks? I heat my Muscovy duck coop (NOT with heat lamps) but I've never had to heat my uninsulated chicken coop. Most standard chickens are much hardier in the cold than my Muscovies are.

I'm not sure but a couple were white and had long ribbon like feathers and I know they were super expensive

That sounds more like a Sebastopol goose. Anyway, any bird with "fancy" feathers like that (silkied, frizzle, sizzle, etc.) will be less insulated and won't be able to stay as warm and dry as those with normal feathers.

Our meal maker is a frizzle and while everyone is playing somedays she spends most time under the plate.
And it may have been his geese! That sounds familiar the ducks were black I believe but I remember he had one named Bubba the Goose

We haven't began the roof yet, we planned on doing the roof like our house with the plywood, paper, shingles
We also have a roof vent in addition to windows.
We looked at other options, but heard metal roofs can drip due to condensation and the other option we considered was polycarbonate

Large roof overhangs with HC covered open soffits.
The best for winter ventilation.

Do you mean a ridge vent? I'm afraid the ridge vent will not be enough in the winter. You want cross ventilation to pull the moist air out of the coop. Add soffit vents or vents under the eaves and you'll have good airflow above their heads.

After our buy fail, adorable 2 house coop, we decided to scratch it resell it to someone for rabbits, and building from scratch!
We had tons of inspiration and I'm more than exstatic to begin!
The building plan comes from an 8 x 8 shed plan.
We are adding insulation, a roof vent, windows, and an automatic door into their 208 sq ft run!
Our wood has arrived!

Glad your hens are getting out of prison. Chain link will look better over time, but it has too big holes for babies. I ended making a cage within a cage for chicks. I have bird netting over the top of chainlink. Rural florida half the year so bears, bobcats, coyotes. I have three dogs so that helps. Plus something you can walk in to clean is a blessing..

Their feet will be off the ground and they have a wind block. I know it gets very cold for a while and you may see some black waddles but they do OK. Rodents and chickens will destroy that styrofoam board.
