Hello Y'all,
Well I am a newbie to raising chickens, don't have any at the current time but am in the process of buying my own 5 acre homestead in central Texas. I know the first thing we (my wife and I, plus our 3 minions) want to do is get a garden going and get some chickens. We have been dreaming of buying our own place for 12 years and have finally hit that time. I have been researching chickens for some time know through BYC, plus bought Storey's guide to raising chickens. There is so much information I almost feel overwhelmed. Look for many different questions from me on breed types to coop types. Our goal is to have our own little piece of self-sustainable heaven while teaching our children the invaluable skills of raising your own meat, eggs, dairy (we plan on goats or a cow) and a good garden. Thank you BYC for having such a great site. I also plan on joining your sister sites.
