From tragedy comes growth

Thanks for the links! He is doing better in terms of the foot, his swelling is down and he allowed hubby to probe and squeeze all over the foot and he never flinched once. He still isn't walking but I think it's another issue that has presented itself...

Day 6: morning bath, salt compress and antibiotics. He is not eating and drinking though and that has me concerned. When I put him in his bath tonight I discovered little beige colored bugs all over his head!!!! Gah! Can we not get a break? I ran down to the coop but none of the hens or other ducks appear to have any on them. This is not to say that there aren't any, I just can't see any. Of course, all of them are eating and drinking without a problem...
Research turned up that ducks who are ill, cannot preen as well as normal and they are more prone to infestations of mites. I'm pretty sure we have mites.

I'm crossing fingers that these are not red mites and I do not have pictures as once they realized they were spotted the little buggers went into hiding. They are primarily on his head and neck and they look like little fleas that are lighter in color.

The plan? Tomorrow I am hitting up Tractor Supply and getting some dust. I'll dust all the birds just to be sure. And I think with the lethargy and lack of appetite, it's time to get the antibiotics. His little body needs some help fighting all that he is up against.

On the bright side, he snuggled with me tonight, it was like when he was a duckling and he would sleep in the crook of my neck. All of a sudden it was like he rediscovered who I was and was comforted by me. He tucked himself into my arm and sighed. Unfortunately, I know this is probably more to do with the fact that he has limited energy to fight me.

I'll let you know more tomorrow.

Not good, things are continuing to worsen and he is not eating or drinking.

No energy and TSC is closed today. Looks like we are trying to hang in there until tomorrow. Hope he makes it.

Thanks chickenfan4life

It always warms my heart to have so much support on here. You all rock my world.

Got the poultry dust today from TSC. The other birds still look healthy. I do have a hen going through a hard molt but she is eating and acting normal. I'll try to get pictures but she is being very camera shy. Not that I blame her haha.
