Also.. I'm stumped.. I never got the welcome mat through the house bonus and it was never gifted to me, but one day I opened up my game and got the "Completed!" message for that goal. That happen to anyone else.

You probably did get one gifted to you then, or maybe you found one and didn't realize you did? I know a lot of the collectables from the buildings don't show up right away, but they do go to your inventory whether or not you click them. So maybe you had one pop up and didn't see it, but it was credited to you?

That happened to me with the Breakfast in Bed quest. I'm still trying to figure out where I got 2 pillows from.​

I had the breakfast in bed quest and it automatically gave it to me LOL! Not sure how I got it but I knew I didn't have any pillows to begin with LOL!

What if you send someone a gift and then choose to not notify them? Would the pillow show up that way? Maybe someone sent them to you but did not choose the option to let you know they sent a gift.
