Frost White Legbar

Here are my 4 white legbar chicks (and a bonus cream pullet I hatched from the same breeder). I look forward to hatching chicks from them next year. I ended up with 2 white cockerels and 2 white pullets. I also raise Cream Legbars and have several picked out to hopefully show in Nov and Dec.

Oooooh..... are you guys battling to see who has the best White Legbar chickens?

Lol no.. just getting my start and will show them every chance I get. The breed is still new, and neither the Cream or White variety has been accepted by the APA yet. They're getting there but exposure is important so more people can fall in love with the breed and get them out there. :)

Odds are when I take my White Legbars to shows no one else is going to have any there so the competition part isnt the point. Its important to get others on the Legbar train so the breed can thrive.

It has taken me 3 years but I now have a good breeding flock of the frost white/sport cream legbars. They are doing great and laying very well. I have lots of little chicks hatching. I have heard that others say the chicks are weak or unhealthy but mine are all doing great. I mean - look at those cute little chicks that just hatched! They are wonderful. Hi, I was hoping that you or anyone on here , being very familiar with the frost white legbar that you might be able to answer a question about them. If I hatch some of their eggs that were fertilized by either of my two roosters , would the chicks still be white? My roosters are a lavender Orpington & a Swedish flower. Also, would the chicks lay blue eggs when they start laying? Any info on this would be appreciated since I have a hard time figuring out these breeding calculator charts some people post. Thanks

The White Legbars are created with a Recessive gene for white plumage. If you cross them with a non-white cock bird you won't get any offspring that are white. 0% white, 100% colored

If you back breed one of the cockerels from the first crossing to the White legbar you would get 50% white, 50% colored because the colored cockerels from the first cross would be carriers for the Recessive white gene.

The Blue Eggs are produced by birds that have a White, to Tint, to Light Cream-based colored shell with the addition of a dominant gene that add the blue coloring to the shell. If you cross a Legbar with a white egg breed, then they will still produce blue eggs (although more pale in color since the blue gene will be split and not pure breed). If you cross to a brown egg laying breeds like an Orpington or SFH the egg color that is added to the shell will mix with the brown egg shell colors producing a green, khaki, or olive-colored egg.

Thank you. That makes it a lot easier to understand.
