Hi Guys,
First time chicken owner and went chicken crazy as a result have tons of different breeds of chickens. I have several roosters kept in a bachelor pen.
This week my Lavender Maran roo’s comb has begun to turn purple/black.
My other roosters with large combs show no issues. Luckily, my boys were all raised together so there is minimal fighting.

Is it possible for one roo to get frost bite and not the others in the same pen? Or is the beginning of something? I don’t see any open sores or wounds.
I will take pictures this afternoon.

Frostbite can occur with only one getting it, yes. High humidity or direct cold drafts on a large comb might be a cause.

Make sure that he is not being kept from drinking water and eating by the other roosters. I once had three in a large pen, and one was not allowed to get off the roost to drink or eat by the two others.

If the rooster has a very large comb, sometimes they may darkened in the back or on the tips.
