Frostbitten Roosters

Exposed flesh is exposed flesh. The 'cold hardy' breeds do not have magical properties that prevent frostbite. They may well be more better in other respects, but not in headgear.

I somewhat disagree with that. The cold hardy breeds, for the most part have smaller combs. A leghorn with a big floppy comb is not as able to keep his entire comb protected under his feathers at night compared to a roo with a little bitty rose, pea or walnut comb. Then, there are the roos who choose to stand watch, even at night, and don't tuck their heads. IMO, a big floppy comb is much more prone to frost bite. Those points on a straight comb have less surface area and are at the very end of the capillary supply.

Huh? Sounds like we're saying the same thing. What did you think I meant?

One of my bantam cochin rooster got dubbed by frostbite right down to the top of his head. It had nothing to do with ventilation. The dummy spent the night outside because he was trying to go back to the bantam coop after he was relocated to the other shed.

He healed up quite nicely, and now doesn't get frostbite. I do nothing. Putting stuff on them does nothing, and all that goop and goop can attract more frostbite in my opinion.
