Frozen Chickens

Well I got to the last wall this past weekend and what did I find but a completely rotted away sill plate that the rot had spread up into the wall studs. But wait there's more, this shed had been used for cattle in the past and they had pushed the wall out about 4" so I really had my work cut out for me. I started by cleaning out the old rotten wood, scrounged up some pressure treated 4x4s marked the studs and sawed them off into good wood. I hammered the new sill in place but still needed to get the wall pulled back in. Dad was looking down and inspired me to get my come along and log chains, I used C-clamps to make an anchor point on the studs and wrapped a chain around the support beams in the center of the room. That come along pulled that wall back in place like it was nothing. next problem was anchoring the sill so it would stay, I had some 3/8" rebar stakes so I drilled through the 4x4 then used a hammer drill to drill through the concrete footing, hammered the stakes in and now it's better then new. please don't expect any photos of this project because just making posts is stretching the limits of my tech talent. Next step finish the interior wall framing, hang the door and get the electrician in there.
 
Even with it's issues it's a good building, I was in there a few weeks ago when the wind was 50mph and it didn't creak, pop or rattle. I see you're in Indiana, I grew up in Highland up by Hammond.

I do envy you. I just wish all this snow would melt. Can't start getting the gardens ready for planting as the ground hasn't been seen since mid November. Still have over a foot of snow in the yard. Can't clean out the coop as the snow in front of the clean out door is 3 1/2 feet deep. The pile of snow from plowing the driveway is 10 feet tall. They tell me it's been an unusual winter. This was my first in Montana. It's been a long one.
