Frozen eggs

This is going to sound dumb, but I can't tell if the eggs are frozen or not. The shell will definitely crack? The last few days (about zero in the coop)the eggs have been really cold, but not cracked. So do I assume they aren't frozen because they aren't cracked?

I was busy trying to thaw out my water this morning and my eggs laid in the nest boxs for a couple of hours..Two of them froze and split in two

You can also eat them yourself--- We had frozen egg omelets this morning. Actually-- we only had 1 frozen egg today, and 2 from yesterday that we'd just set in a bowl in the fridge. Today's egg was like jello when I cracked it, so I let it sit on the counter bout 10 minutes, and went back and scrambled the bowl a few times and it thawed just fine. So, no need to feed them to the animals if you need eggs to eat-- they're just fine that way. I'm not sure if you could do merengues or fluffy stuff with them after freezing-- but for just plain egg eating, they're great!

During the summer when I have an abundance of eggs I freeze them to use in the winter. I made two pound cakes yesterday from frozen eggs and all my Christmas cookies were made with frozen eggs. They are good for baking, although I don't know if I'd want to fry an egg that's been frozen for any length of time because they get a little "rubbery" when they thaw.

We have the same problem here. Earlier this week (when the high was 4) I had many frozen & cracked eggs. As the freeze continued, my one hen decided to go broody and kept the eggs from freezing! I've been thanking her with extra treats and lots of hot water.

I was going to buy a heated waterer but it's been so cold that it wouldn't help anyway. My friend has a heated coop and heated waterer and his still froze.

That's strange, the electric water heaters are programmed to turn on @ 32 degrees. Our water is never frozen. Maybe your friends electric heater has malfunctioned.

I agree that purchasing the heater online is less expensive than purchasing @ feed store. Even with the s/h fee it was around $10 less. That's the ONLY thing I've found online that's cheaper.

That is possible and I don't know what temps he keeps his coop at. I just asked if he was going to vaseline the combs and he reminded me that his coop was heated. The next day he told me the water froze. Maybe I will have to buy one and see.

Spin the eggs, than stop them for a second and quickly release them, if they spin again, they're not frozen, otherwise they are.( it may take a couple tries to get it right;) )

I bumped this thread because I get frozen eggs, which I eat, but I can't give them to customers and I would like some solutions
