Frugal Pattern Quilt Block Swap (Sign-up ends 6/18/11)

Just saw this posting today and wondering if you would make an exception of the deadline date for a 1st timer? If not, please let me know when the next one might be planned for so I can put it on the calendar. Thanks in advance and have a blessed day!

I'm downloading some pics now to here. It will take a couple of minutes but I'm doing it step by step. I'll post each one as they are done.

This is the first cut LOF (Length of Fabric) LETS MAKE THIS EASY, CUT 7 INCH SQUARES. .

Now I open the fabric and cut 4 blocks at 7 INCHS. So you should have a square 7 INCHES.

Now TAKE the fabric you want for the center and cut the LOF 1 and 1/2 inches. Then open and cut your strips 10 and 1/2 inches long.

Cut your squares in half on the diagonal. I forgot to take a pic of that but it's from one corner to the opposite corner. I'm sure you all know that one. lol

Now on the wrong side of your fabric mark the middle of your fabric with (I used a Marker) The square will be 4 and 3/4 inches to the middle. The strips are 5 and 1/4 inches.

It's taking a long time for the next pic to download and I need to leave I'll add it when I come back. Sorry about that.

Putting the right sides together..... match up your marks and sew down the one side.

The directions state to press to the center because it makes it easier to put them together.

Well I made my first 1/4 of a block, and had a quesstion, but it has already been answered. So this block isn't trimmed to 6.5 inches yet b/c that was my question. It went together well and I think this is going to be a easy no brainer when we all get the details down.

Those look easy enough for me. I just need to know if there are set colors we are using or if we are using scraps. I am hoping scraps cuz I can't afford to go buy any material right now.

I think my test block last night came out to be over seven inches before trimming. I messed up on the first trim and kept practicing my trimming and that one is about 6" square

this is why I must make practice blocks, lol. I will have hubby trim me a plexiglass 6.5" square as a template once I am sure that is what we are doing.

I was trying to do the math to figure out a 12" square panel, but my brain was not working last night. Yesterday I had to get up at 3am to get my son to a surgery appt in Jackson at 6:30. The doctor showed up at 8am. grrr I drank about 8 Mtn Dews to stay awake since my son would not nap and I think I was hallucinating

The first part of my thesis is due this week and I was trying to write, but couldn't focus. I thought a little sewing and cutting might help.

Is this the plan?

we will make individual blocks from scrap material that measure 6.5" square (the middle strip on a finished block should be 1" wide)
sew four of those blocks together to make a panel that is 12.5" square
we will mail X number of 12.5" panels
when we sew the swap panels together the seam will use the 0.5" and the resulting "finished" panels will be 12" square

Going back to Jackson to pick up my husband's new suits that I didn't pick up yesterday. I am going to hobby lobby while I am there

I'll be glad to add you but please let me know for sure today because I am trying to see how many sign up and then we can figure out how many blocks we will need to do.

Use your scraps for this but make sure for each block you use only 2 fabrics, this way the blocks will be uniform. I know that lots of us here can't afford fabric right now thats why I wanted to do a swap using just scraps that we all had

Everyone please check the list on the first page, if your name is not on the list and you want in this swap please let me know and I will add your name to the list.
