Fruits Vegetables for chicks/chickens?

ok so i tried two things today...the first was strawberries...that went ok they played with it a little then ignored the bits i put in their brooder and then i gave them a piece of corn on the cob and they went ballistic! they r all huddled in a corner far away from the cob...dont know if i should remove it or leave it? it was kinda comical the way they freaked out even though i was sad they got so upset

I hung a cob of corn in the coop and they would not go near it until I broke off some kernels and they got a taste. Then they attacked the thing. It looked like a boxing match because they would peck then have to dodge as the corn started swinging around. We got a huge kick out of watching them!

I read feeding them avocados was toxic to them...you might want to check that our before you continue to feed them that:)

Don't put too much stock in that list. It is a very generic list that adds anything toxic to any animal. Trust your chickens to eat what they need and want. Oleander, for example, is very poisonous to chickens, but I have nearly 100 linear feet of 20' high bushes. They pick through the leaves for anything underneath, but won't eat the oleander.

With avocado specifically, it is the peel and seed that contain a toxin that may or may not be poisonous. I never could find a real study on it. Mine won't eat either of those parts, but they will eat the meat.

I'll try that. I try all kinds of stuff with mine and they don't want anything to do with most of it. Didn't even like the watermelon. They are getting plenty big I would think they would try more treats.

What about cooked cranberries? I cooked some up in the microwave and they loved them, but are they okay to feed? I didn't see them on the list of do's and don'ts to feed. Although I just read that citrus fruit is not a treat of choice, my wild and whacky chickens LOVE tangerines (peeled)!
