Frustrated about the availability of chicks

Support local! Look on Craigslist. I left Facebook long ago because of their overwhelming amount of fake accounts, trolls and scams. I do $10 per unsexed duckling, which is great considering you get a healthy, started baby with background info instead of an $8 question mark from Feed Store. Once they are sexed, they are more. If it’s a good home (entirely up to my judgement), I replace any that die if I have similar birds. Way more than you can say for big business birds. I also barter for different bloodlines or items useful to me.
If you want harder to find or rare breeds, look at the breeder’s directory: https://livestockconservancy.org/heritage-breeds/breeders-directory/

Seeing so many people wanting free eggs to hatch to, claiming classroom hatching....just to get free eggs. And people be claiming dead chicks to get more...free.
Wow that is bad. Another classroom hatch type problem is people (parents co-workers) who aren't prepared for chicks possibly wanting the chicks because of egg prices. We are classroom hatching this year but not offering the chicks that hatch far and wide. Just among us already crazy chicken peeps :). And we're using our own eggs. Setting on the 31st, can't wait!:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy

I definitely second the livestock conservancy. I got my Delawares from a breeder there that has just retired. They are absolutely amazing. Pure Heritage Delawares bred back to proper weights. I'm so happy.
