Frustrated!!!!! Ducks won't go into pond

I have tried putting them in the pond, I would get one at a time & hold them in the pond for a few minutes then gently toss them to the middle of the pond & they would freak out & fly back out of the pond. My husband says their just odd ducks & very spoiled!!!!!
I did read somewhere that domestic ducks do not like water such as ponds and lakes. I found this out after trying to introduce our ducks to our beautiful 70 acre Lake that I had envisioned them peacefully swimming around in.

My friend had the same problem with her domestics. They finally decide instead of sitting there looking at the pond they might as well get in. They did, but it took some time. I would follow the tips given...BYC members know what they are talking about(most of the time! Just kidding!!!:lau:gig). I am worried about my ducks not wanting to go into the pond, so we will have to see!:idunno Best of luck!!! Hope your ducks realize it is more fun swimming with you than watching you "try" to be a duck.

Honestly, I think they'd do it in their own time if they felt ready, but in the mean time, they have a pool in their enclosure, so they probably don't see the need to go onto the pond because of that. Like others said, I think you should try removing the pool and seeing if they go up to the pond of their own free will. Perhaps try feeding them near it, too.

My new Muscovy didn't go into the water for around 2 days until she was actually accidentally scared onto it by my dog. She now leaves and goes on it at her own free will. But it took time, patience is the key with animals.
