Frustrated: snakes and rats-need help, please

I didn't read all the replies, so this may have been said, but could you put the small hardware cloth along the floor? I know it's not cheap, but it would keep out rats.

I think if you can start to irradicate the rats your snake population will drop too - I have found poison is really the only effective way to go. Just be sure to place where dogs, pets cannot get to it.

Ole rooster: the floor is completely open and I check every nook and cranny with a flashlight every night. No way something could be hiding in there. Yet, every morning I find a couple of new holes in the floor.
I've become obsessed with this!
And, animal lover that I am, I think I'm becoming a proponent of using rats/mice in lab testing for cosmetics! ;-) I could probably donate a few...
The thing is, every time I find a hole, I pour that green pellet poison down in it, then stuff it with rocks. The next day that same hole is wider - like something has simply cleared it back out again. I'm hoping to start smelling rotting rat soon, but haven't yet.
I'm going to check on prices for gravel, concrete, and hardware cloth.
I simply feel like I'm fighting a losing battle...sigh...
