the fresher eggs should be just fine. As long as the old ones didn't explode on them all should be well.

Toss the old dark eggs and keep just the newer ones. The lady that gave you those older eggs must not have known or cared what she was doing. Sounds like the eggs were partialy incubated and should never have been taken away from mom.

sorry about the bad eggs, i would suggest getting the eggs yourself, not eggs from the students, i would ask for the students to bring two dollars a piece, and get the eggs yourself, mind you i am young, but i remember in the 6th grade someone brought some eggs for us, and none of the eggs developed, just tell that students mother THANK YOU, but let her know what happened, then just get some your self

Where are you located? I would be more than happy to give you some fresh fertile eggs for your class. These are not pure breeds, but they are fertile, at least mine seem to be. I live in Missouri, let me know, this is why I have started mine also. We homeschool, thought the kids would enjoy the project.
