frustrated with free-ranging

I must have lucked out. My chickens don't bother any of our flowers but eat the bugs. They do poop on the improved surfaces like walkways but it isn't like I have to watch my step. As for our garden...well that's fenced in but I'm building a run that surrounds the garden to make a wall-o-chickens from the darn grasshoppers.

My chickens free range from 8am to 12 noon When I go to work. Ill thank my chickens for being such good birds! I limit free raining because of coyotes. If I'm home, they stay out all day until dinner time, so that they don't become the dinner.

One thing that has worked for us on keeping them off our porch, is keeping a bucket full of water near the door and filling squirt guns. I know it sounds mean, but it works. When they would jump on the porch they kids would cut loose with the water guns.

Our rooster wont even hop on the first step to the porch.
