frustrated

Well after months of planning. Making sure there was no law agenst chickens, and the neighbours would not care if i got them. Spent the whole weekend building the coop found a source to buy chickens. and what do i read on the front page of the paper today. My city is voting next week to ban " urban Chickens" Talk about bad timeing. If this falls through i am going to have one very disapointed 3year old boy.

Just when most towns are doing the opposite and allowing urban chickens, your town is taking a step backward. Is there any discussion on the topic, are they taking other opinions?

Maybe they will grandfather in anyone who already owns chickens???

LOL That is exactly what i said to my wife. We need to get the chickens ASAP, even if i get a couple birds that are done laying just to get birds before they pass the by-law so if there is a grandfather clause. I am going to try to go to the meeting at city hall next week but i do have hope cause there were alot of very upset people in the news paper article that said they would be protesting it.

In that case get a bunch of barred rocks or another breed that they all look very close to the same. and keep replacing individuals. They will just think you have the chickens that never die

That should at least give you a few years of chickens and plenty of time to have the laws changed. How long did the longest living chicken live? I thought it was about 12 yrs? 16 yrs?

Maybe the law won't pass. Flood them with calls, emails, letters etc. Then elect chicken friendly city officials.

I should bring my very cute 3 year old to the city meeting. He seems to always get what he wants. LOL
