I got my first bad experience w/ the post office like 2 weeks ago. I bought 70 quail eggs on ebay and he gave me the tracking # on Wednesday(The tracking page didnt update at all). It still didn't come by Monday so that got me worried. I messaged the guy and he responded the next day saying he just got a half destroyed soggy box of eggs in the mail It sucks but he refunded my money though. Not really the best time to buy eggs because of the extra million packages that get dumped into the system because of the holidays... I'm just gonna buy in the Spring

I agree with the one lady I talked to. I think I will use Fed Ex when I start shipping. Fed Ex even refunds the money when they destroy the shipment unlike USPS.

the tracking does not work year round, they put the tracking number on the package so they can charge more for almost the same exact service the "tracking " does not work in real time it should be scrapped and a better way found like when the package is scanned at each location it gets updated but this will not happen because it would show the reason the package had taken so long to deliver and the post office will not allow blame to be placed where it is due. their incompetence would be out in plain view then. LOL

pips & peeps is correct - priority provides a DELIVERY confirmation number ... never was intended to be a TRACKING number. If you want a tracking number from the USPS, you must ship express.

you get what you pay for ... FEDX & UPS would cost a lot more (if they will even accept eggs ... I'm thinking they won't).

I have the same issues here. I ship eggs every week and use paypal to ship. When I take my eggs to the post office I then pay an additional .70 cents for delivery confirmation. I was told by my Postal lady, who is a good friend, that the tracking number they give you when you mail on the internet is a courtesy. It is also not trackable by that number if you have a problem and call the post office. So my packages go out with 2 tracking numbers, the first gets put into the shipping notification by ebay and the extra one I pay for I send to my buyers manually. So far, so good. I figure the more tracking numbers on the box, the better they might not misplace the eggs. But also, like many others have stated, this time of year it is tough. I have 2 shipments going out today, and I have not put anything else on ebay till after the first.

100% correct. A Delivery Confirmation number is just that. It's meant to confirm delivery, not as a tracking number, even though often you do get tracking information via the DC number.

They are supposed to be scanned at mail processing centers but aren't always. I'm astonished at the number of people here saying they never get updates, also. If the package is indeed shipped AT THE POST OFFICE, I always get updates. Many businesses, however, give them to UPS to handle. You will then rarely see anything on the Post Office tracking until the day it's delivered because the post office doesn't physically have the package, though you get a really cheap shipping rate. UPS tends to take their sweet time getting the package to your post office. Once there, it is delivered that very day.

Express mail would be the way to go with eggs or chicks anyway. Otherwise you're not guaranteed any particular delivery date, either. They usually arrive on time, but if they don't, with Priority, you have no recourse.

I worked for a year at a large regional mail processing center monitoring this stuff and helping troubleshoot problems with the system. Of course, I had no control over anything, I could only record, report findings, and make suggestions. But even before I did that, I tried my best to get everything shipped via the US Mail because I have consistently gotten better service that way at my house. There are some centers that are very lax, but most are not. Anyway, in December they are WAY overloaded so yes, bad time to ship anyway.

If it just a Delivery comformation number, why do they call it a tracking number and on the website tell you to keep checking for upadtes?

Just wondering...
