So, while I was in bed, sick from playing in the cold and rain with newly hatched chickies, my DH flooded the kitchen counter top, where we keep our most recent cartons of eggs. I'm not sure WHEN he discovered they were wet however, he opened the cartons to let them dry out..... aaaaaand didn't bother to tell me.

So, what do we have here? Should I wash the eggs and put them in the fridge? Toss them? The cartons are cardboard and still feel kinda NOT dry (not gonna say moist.... heh)

For me it would depend how long they sat in the wet.
If it were just a few hours I would go ahead and use them soon. If it were a full 24 hours I would boil them any longer then that and I would likely not.

Having had food poisoning as a kid I lean toward the food paranoid side of things.

Edited to add..... She still said "moist" :sick.

Thanks for tagging me! I'm also curious to see what people say since I'm pretty new to chicken keeping.

-- Caution: the M word :sick trigger warning!--
I'd also say it depends on time & temperature. Mold & germs grow more quickly if it's warm and m**st
Did they sit like that in hot weather all day? Or is your kitchen cool & they were just soaking for an hour or two?

Might be a perfect time to make quiche or frittata (aka lazy quiche). I love these because it uses a lot of eggs, can be eaten any time of day, & holds up well as leftovers.

Let us know what you end up doing!
