Full squishy crop in the morning and watery/bloody stools

Hopefully, they will have some empty crops in the morning. The Monistat or miconazole is good to use twice a day for sour crop. Make sure they have granite poultry grit available in a separate container from food. If the crop is nit functioning, they can get dehydrated and nit get enough nutrition. Egg is pretty easy to digest. The others without symptoms are probably fine and didn’t eat much of the treats.

Our girl that was the worst off just died. The other three aren’t feeling great, but weren’t as bad as her…so I’m hoping tomorrow will be better for them.

I’ve been so careful with everything we’ve done for them, and this was the one time I “splurged” and I regret it so much.

I have grit available at all times, but it doesn’t seem like they go to it. I’ve mixed some in their feed for now. I’ll continue to give them some egg and try to keep them hydrated. We gave them electrolytes/probiotics today and I’ll do the same tomorrow.

How do I rule out Coccidiosis? The red in the stool is worrying me that it’ll spread to the others if I don’t treat it and they have it. Just seems like a lot of red, and treats were last given on Thursday. Would it still show in the stool?

I'm sorry that you lost her.

If you have a Vet, they can do a fecal float on a sample of poop to test for Coccidiosis.

If you wish to just go ahead and treat for Coccidiosis, you can find Corid (Amprolium) at stores like TSC in the cattle section. It comes in powder or liquid form, either one is fine to get. I'll put dosing below.

Since the last of the treats were eaten on Thursday, the red in the poop may be from worms and/or Coccidiosis, it's hard to know. Possible it could be something in the diet like cranberry that is just now being processed if the crops are full and slow.

I'm so, so sorry this has happened. I'm not sure if giving the treats is what has caused the decline. If you do want to find out more, refrigerate the body and send it to your state lab, they will perform a necropsy and give you a report of their findings. You can look up your lab in the link below. Alternatively, if you are up to it, you can do your own informal investigation to see if you find anything obvious, impacted intestines or gizzard, something going on with the reproductive system, organ failure, etc. Not always easy to do, especially with the first hen, so it's understandable if you wish to mourn her and bury the body without doing anything extra too.

Liquid Corid dose is 2tsp or Powdered Corid Dose is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.
Do not add any extra vitamins/electrolytes that contain B1(Thiamine) to food or water during the course of treatment.
