My chicks are 6 weeks old and look fully feathered, I've transfered them into the coop 2 weeks ago with the brooder light of course and they've been doing great. The temps are now in the lower 50's at night and 70's during the day. They've been stepping out of the coop early in the morning while its in the upper 40's and have been doing very well with these temps, so this evening I've kept the light off for the first time, there is 7 of them so I thought if they get chilled they will cuddle up, I think they will be ok, does anyone out there think they need more time with the brooder light on?
Btw, since I've introduced the chicks to the coop the adult hens have accepted the chicks but have dropped egg production, more than half, and don't like going into the coop like thay always have at night, I have to force them in. I think the brooder light threw their egg laying clocks off, thus the reason I shut the light off...What do you all think??

They are fine without it. Your older girls are just a bit stressed and need time to adjust. the light probably had nothing to do with it, and the want to stay outside...mine do too when the weather gets warm. I have to make them go to bed like little kids

They'll be fine without the lamp.

Your hens are just ticked off because you changed their environment. (they hate change) They'll start back up again. Mine ceased all laying for a week when I integrated new chickens in with them.
