fully formed baby chickens didn't hatch

Thank you Amy. Eggtopsy shows no internal pip and lots of fluid, I couldn't open it all up..but chicks appear fully formed. Got a theory?

I would be questioning the hygrometer. While I like mine around 30/35% 40's isn't that high that I wouldn't think they should drown, but that's what it sounds like if there was lots of fluid.
Is your little giant the one with the digital controls. Mine is and I know I can fill everything with water or run it dry and it says 45-60% humidity. Still air I run 102 . Sounds like humidity too high. From what I've heard when it's too high they can grow too fast and be unable to position themselves to pip. I'm still new to this to
Yes, that's true. High humidity causes smalll air cells which in turn can lead to the chicks growing to fill the excess room and becoming too large.

i had the same thing happen to me last year... But that was from accidently doing a dry hatch and upping the humidity on day 18 for lock down. All eggs had chicks but none hatched.

Jules - Mine's a Hovabator, circulating air..but I'm wondering that myself, so I'm going to try dry incubation this time. I'm putting BBS Ameracauna and BBS OE in the incubator today, plus a few from my silver penciled rock pair. I really hope I get this right this time.

ps Amy..thanks for the link!

I have that same little giant still air incubator and I have had my humidity set at 45-50% and now I am worried based on what you said. I am moving into lockdown in 3 days so I'm a little unsure what to do now based on your experience!

And good luck!!

I'm assuming that your "dry" incubation was too dry and the air cells grew too much?
I honestly don't know what happened. They were kicking on Day 19 but never hatched so I don't know. But i did do a dry hatch accidently, this time the humidity is between 30-50 during the 2nd and 3 week and had drops as well. i just hope all is well now.

How do your air cells look? And how is your local humidity? 45-50 could possibly not be too high if you live in a dry area. And if your cells are too small, you can delay lockdown for a day and try to lower the humidity for a day or two and see if that helps.
