Congratulations, I am so glad it worked out for her and you!

Thanks for your support everyone. Unfortunately Gumby passed a few hours ago.

It was worth a shot.

She was so determined...I have no doubt she found herself another egg to snuggle down into & try again.

! You were such a wonderful momma and did your best! Best of luck with your other chicks! I'm sure they will go one to live wonderful lives.

sorry bout your chicky... some will curse me for it, but i'm pulling an all nighter helping chicks hatch... a few too many eggtopsy's showing no room to turn and zip, let alone room to get their heads out from under a wing to pip at all... i'm working with my own pullet eggs.. and if they live they live if they don't, it wasn't meant to be even with my help...
but reading through i found this, and thought it was funny.... read after to see why....

i was in for a scheduled c-section with my youngest son.... my placenta separated, my blood pressure started to bottom out.. they didn't know why yet though....
tried epi shots.. yeah.. bad idea had they known.. but it happened at the same time they did my epidural so they thought something was goofy with that... in the end, they decided start the surgery, get the baby safe...
they started, found all the internal bleeding, thought for a minute, then said
"get the baby out so we can get rid of that placenta" as soon as they cut the umbilical, the massive bleeding stopped and it was an easy fix....

so yeah, i would buy that theory.....

but i've got ones sitting in my bator now that have WAY too many veins still to even think about doing that... even if they did get themself bleeding....
so it would be a case by case decision....

i live by the theory that if it's meant to be it will be.... if i help, it's becasue i feel i needed to... i've had some where i didn't, and some where i did... and the next hatch, will depend on what's going on at the time and what fate has me do

I snuck Gumby out. There were enough chicks they haven't noticed yet. The 4-yr-old has just started to wrap his mind around death, and it scares him still. If he asks I'll tell him, but if he doesn't, the talk can wait a few months.
