Fun With Data - BYC "Active Users" - How to get our friends to post!?

Fantastic ideas!! A few quick comments:

Basic Content: We definitely need to add more beginners content to the site. Hopefully we can have all the members contribute their wonderful experience and knowledge via the "BYC My Page Tool" and then we can link to those sections of the site when peeps ask questions. Those pages can link back to threads on the forum where more detailed questions can be answered. This would probably be cleaner and better organized than creating sticky threads.

Emailing Members: We send out newsletters about once a month. These are meant to keep people informed about what's up with the site and also point out some of the fun things they may be missing.

Also, every once in a while we send an email to all the members that haven't validated their accounts and ask if they had a problem logging in (we get about 50 emails a week from people that have a hard time registering).

Keep the great ideas coming!

Nifty...

How about putting a headline offering the XX number new person to register gets a free BYC bumper sticker, or even better a t-shirt????

That, IMO, would be a great draw.

Also could do the same thing for posters. The person that posts XX number post wins a bumper sticker or tshirt.

Contests are great, too!

That would help keep posts up and registration. Of course the new member registration would have to be verified that they aren't already a member, but most people are honest.

As SE said, the hobbies have become a big draw. As I mentioned to you a few months ago. I think a better way to handle the Hobbies is to have a category for each specific hobby, so there can be threads under it for each topic, general chat, swaps, etc. That would keep the mile long threads more at a minimum. (example: Hobbies main section. Crochet, Knitting, Spinning/Felting, Sewing/Quilting, Art, Cross Stitch, Wood Crafts, etc for categories. Then each hobby will have all the different threads under them specifically.)

My $.02

I didn't post in the summer, because I was busy outside and .....there were a lot of inside jokes I just didn't get.

But now I'm back on and there are all these fun contest/poultry shows :cutest chicken, ugliest chicken, free ranging chickens.
I would've logged on a lot sooner if I'd known about the contests.
Maybe in the next newsletter you could mention the online poultry shows.
