Funniest Things A City Slicker Has Ever Said To You?

You can get True Potato seed.(yeah it's actually called that) I'm apart of a true potato seed breeding project here in the south for the seed saver's exchange.
Under the right circumstances potato plants will flower then produce berries that have seeds in them like tiny tomatoes.
Some are viable some are not.
They are superior IMO because they are not genetically identical to the parent plant the way seed potatoes are, which reduces the need for lab culture virus free seed potatoes, as the viruses and other diseases will wipe out an entire field of potatoes that are genetically identical after so many generations, its the same reason for the Irish potato famine.
The goal of the project is to encourage genetic variability and preserving genetic diversity of potatoes and other plants.
I hope that didn't come off as rude. I just love talking about plants

Yep i was so happy when i found True Potato seed so much nicer to store seeds then potatoes.

So the "True Potato Seed" is a genetically modified potato plant?

So I was at a local feed store and I am aquainted with one of the employees there. New them long before they started working here. I asked if they were going to make me buy 25 chicks this year. I tried to explain that I have some hatching out now and more still in the incubator and MORE being shipped and I really didn't want 25 of what they will be getting. They were standing there with another "farm supply" store employee when the one I know asks "How do you feed them every hour?" I sarcastically said "HA HA. I just put the feeder in there." Thats when the OTHER employee says "thats how we (the farm store) do it too. Just put the feeder in there" Thats when I realized they were both serious

What? no.
True potato seed is seed produced by the plant by fruit, like a tomato. Just like your children are not genetically identical to you (true potato seed is the offspring of the plant), while a clone of you will be genetically identical (cutting up a potato root into seed potatoes is cloning the plant), the true potato seed is not genetically identical. It is how you breed new variates of potato ( such as blue, yukon gold, fingerlings, russet, red potatoes, etc)

No. Because this is a thread about real things that have occurred that are humorous, when I read it, I was thinking it was being told as a real story, which is why i was confused. Since there are no three legged chickens IRL, mymind wouldn't process the joke correctly. I get it now that I know it isn't a real story but a random joke.

And lets face it - a pretty darned good, random joke.

yes, hehe, it is

Okay, duh. Former city girl here, learning to be country. Obviously I'm failing! At least I know that hens don't need roosters to lay eggs! Now if someone could just convince my hubby that turkeys don't drown every time it rains.

Yesterday, teen girl takes cell phone photos of our brooder of chicks, including the silkies. "Nice Puppies" she was told by a classmate.

Hehe its ok. My mother who is in the 5 percent i the nation in intelligence had a hard time understanding TPS because she spent her entire life cutting up seed potatoes and didn't even realize they could fruit, so it is common.

My mother is CONVINCED I have to put my chickens away when it rains no matter how many times I've told her/she's seen they handle the rain just fine. "They're going to drown!" i mean, sure, we got a lot of rain - but it wasn't chicken height!
