i have 5 chicks...2 about 2+ weeks old, 1 round 2weeks poss. bit younger and 2 3 days old...i feed them grainy food so when their crop is full it looks...and feels....well...grainy! today i noticed, late this morn 1 of the older chicks was really sleepy/drowsy looking, but i did also noticed it had a massive crop, the others were full but not like this one chook...so i assumed it had eaten too much and had fat snake syndrome (with a full belly u get sleepy...sorry aussie slang) so i kept an eye on it but left them do their thing...it still pruned its feathers every so often and moved around if the others went to the other side of the little pen theyre in outside, which is why i didnt worry...i thot it might rain so i brought them in....they were all full and all 5 had a sleep...as did i with my daughter (love nanna naps!) anywho...i put them back outside just now, and i noticed the others' crops less full and they were all wide awake and moving lots...except this one! so i put them all out and checked their crops...they were all grainy and u can even see the food through their skin except this one...its crop had shrunk a little...however this one's crop was really squishy and fluidy...couldnt see any grains but i could see bubbles...like when u fill a water bottle up and theres little air pockets...the chick is moving abit more then before but its still kinda dopey and sluggish...it has had the exact same food and water as all 4 others...so y is it diff.? is it sick? do they store water in their crops like they do food? so i isolate it to keep a closer eye on it?
