A lot of showgirls from bearded parents will get the little tufts on the sides of the head. The white showgirl can account for the off coloring as the white can mask anything. That chick is likely the result of a blue silkie x g.
Lilpeeps does have a valid point- the fact it has silky feathering. Silky feathered x normal always 100% normal feathered. The only exception is if the normal feathered parent happens to be carrying silky.. not very likely in any d'uccle.
I don't know what all birds you have.. It's also a partridge pattern.. can show up from a pair of blacks/blues because black is dominant which means a black can carry one copy of partridge. If both black(or blue in your case) parents carry one copy of partridge then 25% of the chicks will come out partridge. but if you do have a white showgirl like Peeps said, that will also be a very good candidate for being a parent of the chick with a blue silkie.
Thanks Lil Peep and Kev. I have learned a lot more about genetics today
I thought of the partridge pattern too but his underneath is creamy and didn't know if partridge would have that. I just questioned the blue silkies because "so far" their eggs have been fairly infertile. They do lay a different shaped egg than my cochins and I don't seem to remember him/her coming out of a silkie shaped egg.
Yea partridge can come that light. Partridge really is just one gene and makes that basic pattern if various other genes that alter it(makes them solid like buffs for example) are not present. But there are various genes that can either lighten or darken the partridge pattern. I've hatched "surprise partridges" before that were either so dark they were almost black and some that were a weird yellowish/almost greenish tinted. Apparently trying to breed partridge silkies to the standard can be difficult as the color varies a good bit.. too dark or too light.
BTW I also have showgirls. The beard on these does vary from bird to bird too. I really love the ones with no beard but thick muffs.. gives them a serious sideburns look.. so cute.
I know the look- Mr. Whiskers tufts started out looking like sideburns - even thought about naming him Mutton Chops. He has had several names so far, but Mr. Whiskers seems to stick.

I might just let you have him (or her - not sure yet)
I just like the surprises. There is one in the newest group that is completely blonde and then there is this guy...
Mr. Whiskers has lots of character. He seems like the confident sort, not a guy who would be bothered by hundreds of people laughing at him on a chicken forum...
