Funny, Curious Barred Rocks...Today's Excitement

mine spotted a big turtle in the yard the other day too. they all raced over and got up in its face and cocked their head sideways. you could literally see question marks above their heads. it was tooo funny. i have this one barred rock that chases mockingbirds. the mockingbird will land on a barbed wire fence and holler at her and the BR will run over to the fence and get right under and jump up at her. my barred rocks are also really bad about picking my locks and breaking into my house to get catfood. they are also probably the clumsiest birds i know though. mine dont sound like normal chickens either, they honk..

It would have been great to have made a video of that!

I love Barred Rocks - they are so full of personality!

OMGosh, my 2 barred rocks honk too, and I was wondering if it was ALL barred rocks or just some. They sound so goofy, and they have since they were pretty small.

They'll also wander away from the others a bit, or the others will wander away from them, and the silly barred rocks will look up and realise they're alone and act like they don't know what to do. They start honking and looking around so confused. It's too funny! When the finally spot the others across the yard, they'll go flying towards them, or should I say bouncing towards them, with wings flapping wildly!

mine let out a few lost honks and then frantically waddle across the yard. too clumsy to fly, they like fall out of flowerpots and stuff. they just like fall over...

My big BR hen would run across the yard at breakneck speed with her head down like a battering ram. Nothing funner than those pudgy legs waddling her along as fast as she could go! Not exactly the Road Runner, but maybe she was in her own mind.

There's a sound byte of Greedy Bess the Barred Rock on my site ~ I swear it did sound like an exclamation point would appear at any moment over that little head! What a great personality.

I know that battering ram! Mine is named Lexie. One of the Buff Orpingtons, Ginger, does the same thing. They are so funny, these girls! I also have a Barred Rock named Bess. She has an odd comb goes two directions and lays flat on her head and a strange right eye that is sort of stuck back in her head. She can see out of it, but has to turn her head, poor thing. She's very shy, probably because of her deformity that causes her not-so-great vision.
