Funny/Cute nightly ritual with pictures

yup. You read right. She was born and raised outside with VERY little handling..the guy just moved her around in different pens and that was it. Not saying he mistreated his chickens at all. He takes very good care of his flock. Amazingly so. Just not lovey dovey with them. I had 2 chickens. One was sylar and one was another polish names Navi. Navi turned out to be a rooster and got very aggressive with my cockatiels. I wasn't mad at him in the least because he was only doing what roosters do but I could not let my cockatiels get hurt and I was not going to cage either one of them or lock them up in rooms. It wouldn't be fair to either of the birds so I found him a new home that had plenty of chickens and lots of room and kids to play with. I then got a little baby chicken because both Sylar and my daughter were upset with the lack of another chicken. That didn't go so well. The same day I got the baby she passed away during a seizure. I was heart broken and said enough was enough. I was already upset with the loss of Navi and then the new baby? No more chickens for me. I was fine with just sylar. But my husband knew I was upset and made an appointment with a chicken breeder for me to go pick out a chicken and imformed me about it. I was hesitant but went anyways. There were HUNDREDS of chickens. No joke. I was dumbfounded. We walked around and walked around and then I saw her. She just..glowed from the rest of them. yes, they were all beautiful but something about her. And she stood at the fence and just looked at me. I said "I want her" No questions asked about the price, her breeding, nothing. I wanted HER. And about 30 minutes after I got her home she was like putty in my arms. I fell in love with her in that instant. She is a princess. You can do anything to her and she is great. I just can't believe that she was raised outside with no handling! it was like she was raised to be indoors! The first time I put a diaper on her I figured she would flip her lid. But nothing! Sylar has been getting a diaper put on her since she started getting feathers and she still acts like I am killing her while I am putting it on lol I absolutely love the contrast between them. Suprisingly they get along great! There was no nipping or snootiness at all when I brought Akello here.

I will try to keep snapping pictures as often as possible of my silly chickens! I also love taking more photography like pictures of them..you know..get the beauty shots lol here are several of my newest ones.

Ya know, I honestly wouldn't worry about her sleeping pattern. Mine is absolutely crazy and my chickens are fine. They nap when they want. If they are tired then they curl up and sleep. If they want to play then they run around flapping lol. OOO I know! I feel like I am constantly making diapers. Just keeps lots of fabric around and try to find the quickest way to make them even if they are not pretty until she gets full grown...Then you can go all crazy and make it look perfect lol Although I recommend doing 2. Ya never know when you are going to have a diaper blowout lol

Yea, I finally figured out which stitch I can use on the sewing machine with the t-shirt material so it won't get jammed or anything. It doesn't like the straight stitch on the t-shirt fabric for some reason

It always tries to jam up, but I tried the zig-zag the other day, and it works like a charm

So now just finding the right fit for her, cutting out is now the longest part

That last pic with her in the branch: the way the branch is above her head makes it look like she has a fancy green leaf-hat. Funny.

I gotta search for a diaper thread. I have way too many questions to interrupt your cute pics with. I know there's gotta be one here somewhere.......

thanks! I love taking pictures of my birds. I upload so many picture to my computer that half the time I can't keep them organized. I will try to take some more tonight when my daughter lays down for bed. As of right now I need to go take a nap. Only 3 1/2 hours of sleep is a killer lol

LOL yeah, my sleep habits have been insane lately. I need to start getting it back to normal.

Here are some more pictures..yay!

The look sylar gave me when I got home late the other night..she was not happy that I took her buddy out of the house for so long.

So I gave her a treat to make her feel better...and right now she is doing her "stare at the worm for 5 minutes" before she gobbles it down
SAM_2394.jpg

And akello just simply gobbled hers up

Sylar after getting into some of my coolaid. Bad Chicken! lol but so cute
SAM_2356.jpg

I guess Akello liked the smell of the coolaid so much that she passed out on the cup
SAM_2358.jpg

Sylars new matching look...Her feathers are getting so long that I had to pull them back AND I had to make her a larger diaper today so..why not make it all matching?

Akello giving me the look because she got jealous that I was holding Sylar

Here's some pics of the diaper I made from a pair of panties. You can tell the basic idea, I hope! I stuck my phone in there to get some contrast. In pic 3, there's a black dot that I put when I measured the breast to vent area. I still needed to add a bit. The butt part of the panties was adjusted to make the poop pouch, I ended up cutting it down too much, though. If you look at the earlier pic, you can see how far out it stuck out before. It was probably better before.
With this pair, the only stitching I did was the pouch part. I ended up cutting the hip straps, since they were too tight. The cool part of that, they stick to the velcro strip on their own. I just used a wide piece of the hooks half of the velcro and stick the straps in place. On Bloo (silky) the velcro just blends in without irritating her feathers or skin. I should've taken new pics tonight, she was really cute!

I picked up this pair at Walmart for three bucks. In the kid's dept. I think they were a size 5. I thought getting a pair with the ruffly butt would be cute, but I couldn't find any.
I'm not sure if this is the "best" pattern to use, but it was fun and I didn't have to pull out the sewing machine. Gonna have to get a larger pair for Coco, LOL!

I'll to have to see if Coco will do a bow! That's adorable! Her crest is all over the place. I've been thinking of giving her a small clip around the eyes. A bow would be great!
I'm so glad you started this thread!
