Hi everyone,
I am new here but have refered to the site with so many questions (all of which have been answered w/o me joining!

) Anyway, today i was out visiting my chickens and noticed my little bantams comb looking somewhat "odd" today:/. After close examination we noticed there was some blood near it and it actually seems...well stunted???? It is not nearly as large as her "sister" bantam. Its some what smashed into the area. Which honestly, it could just be that its shorter than her "sister's" (and not really knowing how old she is probably doens't help). But the blood is what concerned me. She seems fine, she is running around peeping and looks quite normal:cool:. Could it just be that one of the larger chickens just stepped on her causing an abrasion? (which she does get stepped on often, since she's smaller than the other chickens in the house) If so, is this something to worry about?

Can you post a picture? ...So we can better understand what you mean by 'stunted and smashed'?

It could be she was pecked on by a bigger bird which would explain blood yopu are seeing, as well as 'swelling' if what you are describing could be swelling?

Is her sister actually her 'sister'? if she is really a 'roo' the comb will be bigger...if she is a different breed her comb could be a different shape/size (rose combs are small and smooshed looking)....as is combs of the same breed can look slightly different just as human finger prints....

A pic can help if you have one!

Welcome

Hello hellooo.
No of course her sister is not her sister. In fact that are different breeds, the chicken i am talking bout is actually a sebright, much like the one posted in the "breeds" section of this website. After checking out the pictures of Pippa in her teen years I realize that her comb is just going to grow at a much different rate. Her "sister" is a fat faced bantam (no clue of the actual breed name she has the fuzzy feet and the fat feathery face). I think after looking at the pics of a nice healthy sebright and then re-examing her little comb...I have come to the conclusion that she was just scratched by one of the standard sized chickens jumping over her.
I will post pics later today if possible....for now its off to work i go.
