I have a few Cortunix Quail as house pets. I let them out for a few hours a day and they wonder around my living room and fly a little. Well I just had them out and was working ont he computer a Cinnamon, my little quail rooster, kept crowing and crowing to me. He does talk to me, or so it seem most of the time. I finally figured I would go see why he was upset, he usually crows when he is away form his two girls. Well there is he looking at his girls. They had gone and gotten stuck behind the cage against the wall and couldn't get out. He was calling me to get them out. i pulled the cgae out and they went and all went back in there cage. He's happy now.

Awww... that is so cute. I have some coturnix quail too and they seem to be really calm. This is the first time I have had them and I have been surprised at how calm they are. I like hearing their soft little peeps too. Mine are just 11 days old.

I have these three older one, and then they laided eggs so I have hatched some, so I have about 8 chick. They range from 4 weeks to 1 hour old right now. i have one that likes to sit on my shoulder and talks to me with her little coos. If you handle them alot they will calm down really nicely. They don't fly too far, mine to burst up into the air, but Cinnamon as started to fly really well and will fly out of the living room, thorugh the dining room and down the a hall. He needs a hand ride back as he can't find his own wat back. My 5 cats know to not touch the quail, I can see they have a really hard time sometime try to resist the temptation. lol

have you heard them crow yet? If not just wait, it is the funniest noise in the world.

Mine are too young to crow. But I heard their parents while I was picking them up from the man who gave them to me. You are right, it is a funny crow. It is hard to describe, but it is a pleasant noise, not piercing like a chickens crow. The man I got these from let me try some of his pickled quail eggs. YUMMMMMM!!!! They were so good. He made them a couple of different ways, He pickled some in vinegar and pickling spices, some he did put in the juice of store bought Bread and Butter pickles, and some he put in with Pickled Beets. They were really good. I can't wait till mine start laying so I can make them. My friend said his were laying eggs at around 38 - 40 days, wow that is quick compared to a chicken.

They probably do, I get gamebird starter for my pheasants and now these little coturnix quail. These are also called Pharaoh Quail and are considered a good meat and egg quail because they get 14 - 16 oz. But they are very cute and friendly.

Yes they start laying really fast. I haven't tried to pickle the eggs yet, maybe I will. I'm not going to hatch anymore right now. I feed mine Game bird crumble, and they babies get the same but it goes through the blender first. When they are adults I do give them scratch as a treat, they like to eat all sorts of stuff.
