We had a thunder/rain storm this afternoon. Like I usually do when it's fixin to rain, I closed the "people door" to the chicken house to keep Tiny (my blind pullet) from falling out when it starts raining. I left the small chicken door open. I TRY to get the other girls in the house and they are not having it. I gave up and went on putting the dog in the bathroom (his rain shelter, DH hates that) and calling in the cats.
When it started raining I went out to the coop to make sure Tiny didn't find her way out the small chicken door and got stuck outside. On my way out I grabbed a HUGE yellow beach towel to use as an umberela (spelled wrong, I know). I held the towel over my head with my arms out and the towel is soooooo big it was draped over the ends of my arms. Well, in all the wind the small door to the house closed and there was about 15 pullets stuck out in the pouring rain. I walked towards them with the towel on my head and they FREAK OUT. I was like "Man, they're mad as wet hens!"
I figured they were scared because they aren't used to rain. So I chase them around the chicken yard trying to make them run into their house. Didn't work! I opened the "people door" so they can see how nice and dry it is in the house. Didn't work! At this time Colonel Bok Bok (the roo) comes out of his house (a dog house). He is on the other side of the yard with a fence dividing him from the girls because he's over a year old and they're only 10 weeks. Anyway, he's POed. He's screaming at me and the girls are breaking their necks trying to get through his fence so he can protect them FROM ME!!!!
This is when I figure it all out.
They are running from me because I have this huge towel on my head with my arms out holding the towel up and it looks to them that I had transformed into a GIANT BIRD OF PREY!!!! STUPID ME!!!!
After 5 minutes of chasing and scaring the holy crap out of these poor chicks I take the towel off my head, one of the girls walks up to me and says "BBBAAAAGGGUUUUKKKK" as if to say "It's just silly momma" and they all walk calmly into the house.
We were all soaked to the bone. The Colonel is still on edge. Crowing under his tarp for about an hour before going back into his house.
If you read all this then thanks! I thought it was funny enough to share. Or maybe you just had to be there. Ok I'm done.
