funny things "crossbred" dogs are called...

Years ago, we owned a male Chow Chow, and our neighbors had a female Doberman Pincsher. Living in New England at that time, we assumed any offspring would be "Chowdermans".

It sickens me, to be honest. People who just so happen to have two dogs, make mutts, and sell them for ridiculous prices - when there are hundreds of thousands of mutts (which are just as good and beautiful dogs) and even purebreds being euthanized in shelters every day that cost HALF as much as a "designer" dogs to adopt.

All so that they don't actually have to breed to standards, or worry about having quality stock.

ETA: What would you call my old girl? Mom was a chow chow, dad was a lab X border collie.

Agreed 100% with ChickenWisperer. Responsible breeders do not create these dogs; there is no health testing, no adherence to standards, nothing but a drive to make a quick buck. They take low quality purebreds and create low quality F1 and F2 mutts then sell them at profit - calling such crosses "breeds" is insulting to the concept of what a breed is. So many of these dogs have ridiculous health problems because contrary to the theory of "hybrid vigor," breeding two bad quality dogs of different breeds does not yeild a quality dog. I remember someone bringing in a 10 month old "labasset" who had such bad hips and elbows that he was already crippled - and they wanted to BREED him with his SISTER to recoup some of the money they blew on the overpriced, unhealthy mutt!

Anyways, if my dogs were designer dogs, they'd probably be...
Chowgle - chow x beagle
Labround - lab x hound
Border Schnauzer - border collie x schnauzer
Brittany Russel Sperrier - Brittany spaniel x jack russel terrier
Highway Cur - mountain cur (mix?) found on highway
