Fussy eaters!!

They love watermelon but one of them almost choked on a piece .. So now I grate it.. Worrying to see them do that.. They don't like corn.. I just want to be able to give them more of a variety ..

I just toss the whole rind to them so they bite off the pieces and strip it clean. My ducks will swallow cherry tomatoes whole... you can see it going down the side of their neck... scary but it always goes down. Silly things.

Did you give it on the rind or cut it up? Generally speaking whole works best because they literally can’t bite off more than they can chew.

Well, my geese and ducks will do that but eat it later. Waterfowl don’t exactly have sophisticated palates, so it’s entirely possible that they just don’t want it out of your hand, but would eat it otherwise.

I throw mine peas, watermelon, corn, pitted cherries, lettuce, spinach, dandelion leaves, strawberry tops...the list goes on and on. They’ll eat all of it, but only the geese eat dandelion leaves from my hand.

Yea... with the watermelon rind it is kind of a snack. They have one go at it, leave it, and then come back, until it is clean. Also they seem to like fresh veggies better.

Mine love corn on the cob too. They even gnaw at the cob for days after all the corn is gone.

Silly question... Do you cook it??

Not silly at all! I’ve actually done both raw and cooked. We throw them the cob after we’re done (leaving some kernels) and thrown shucked raw cobs. I throw them the corn silk and husk and they devour them.
