I honestly wasn't sure if this was the right spot to post this so I apologize if it isn't.

I plan on getting both layer chicks and slow growing meat chicks this year but I realized that when I get the meat chicks, I may have to get some of the breeds I wanted at the same time. I know that our Silkie/Cochin bantam will go broody again this year so I'll be letting her raise chicks to avoid allowing them to grow inside. I was thinking of keeping all chicks together with her until they're 7 weeks old and then separating the meaties from the group but I understand that flock mates that grow up together tend to be attached to their buddies. Both yards will be next to each other so they'll see each other every day.
I'll be getting 10 meat chicks and 3-4 layer chicks. I already plan on loss while they grow.
I also have a feeling that we may get another broody hen aside from our usual broody.

How long will attachment last after I've separated them??

Are you buying Cornish x??

They are usually all slaughteted by 10 weeks of age.
No, I will be buying what our feed store calls Red Rangers. They're becoming popular in my area for food so I'll be selling 8 of them after they're butchered.
I hate cornish x and will never buy those. cornish x are terrible and nobody in my family will be eating those disgusting things.

They will be fine. Maybe they will be bummed for a few hours, but that's the most that will happen. Chicks get separated out of clutches all the time at all ages for lots of reasons. However you need to do it and for whatever reasons, all will be good.

I don't want Mouse to focus on them anymore after 7 weeks. Plus, I already planned to keep them in their own yard until butcher day
Who the heck is Mouse...the bantam prospective/planned broody?
She should be 'over them'(weaned) by 7 weeks.
And they'll likely all get over being separated pretty quickly.
