Fuzzy, and His Crew

Update on the babes: I can tell one is a rooster for sure already. He has the thickest legs and is the most aggressive, chest bumping and flying all over, with the other chicks. The one in the back is the one I’m pretty sure is a boy.

They’ve outgrown their small brooder space and now have access to the whole room. I haven’t put bedding down in the room yet because I can’t decide what bedding I want to use. I’ll probably go with pine shavings or newspaper. Both make a mess though. On top of the babies being in here I’ll probably have to move my silkies in. So I have to keep them in mind for a bedding type too.

Pretty sure the silkie is a boy too. He has brown coloring coming in on his feathers but I could be wrong. I still don’t know who his father though. Hopefully it’ll become more apparent as he grows.

Definitely have quite a few roosters here. I can’t wait to see their adult feathering. I have high hopes for one looking like Fuzzy. The brown one that loves the camera. Lots of pictures today. They are just too cute. Being with them is just pure joy.

The silkie one might still be a Fuzzy baby with a hen mother. Fuzzy did mate with one of my silkies a lot and this baby has more brown on it than I think it would if Bop, my buff silkie, were the father.

So many boys to choose from! I won’t be re-homing any, or picking my new Fuzzy, until they have grown and I know their personality. I have been more hands off with these guys. Hopefully it’ll help with any potential human aggression issues. The only time I get nipped at is when they’re being impatient. Mostly when I’m refilling their water in the morning. But they are scared of me and run when I come into the room. Then they crowd around because they know I have the water.

This one looks like Fuzzy the most so far.

I’m beginning to think more and more that the silkie is a Fuzzy baby too. It looks like it’s getting a straight comb.

They’re so cute! The little silky and the brown ones are especially adorable.
I agree! The silkie is a mystery to me. I know Fuzzy mated with one of the silkies but I have three silkie hens. All their eggs look the same. But since the baby might be getting a straight comb I’m leaning towards it being a Fuzzy baby. I can’t wait to see their full feathering.

These guys are getting so big. I can already tell, for the most part, who the boys are. There’s some curiosity pecking when I’m in the room with them. But nothing too dangerous. They run away when I go to peck them back or when I reach out for them. There’s three that do most of the pecking and are the bravest. A black marans mix, the silkie, and one of the brown ones. There’s also some evidence of feather picking. Which I’m sure can be attributed to the lack of stimulation. The room, I say that like it isn’t my fault, has failed to grow with them. So I’m looking into putting more toys and stimulating things in with them. I’m open to all kinds of ideas.

I’m not sure if this one is rumpless, I have not visibly rumpless birds, or is feather pecked. I’m leaning towards feather pecked.

All grown up. Ended up with five roosters and four hens. Two roosters are for sure Fuzzys. The brown one with no tail and the leghorn with cheek puffs. Those are the two i kept. The other three, the black ones, went to a farmer. These are the newest photos i have of them. They just got moved outside and once it stops raining I’ll take more photos. So far the leghorn is my favorite. He has Fuzzy’s signature cheek puffs and Fuzzy‘s attitude. He was the first to start crowing as well. There’s a black hen that has cheek puffs but her mother has them too. So the leghorn just feels more special. And he’s super cute.
