Fuzzy's Farm

Gigi, the boy is good. We have to keep telling him to stop rough housing. LOL, he is so totally a boy! AND this morning Jace informed me that he knocked a tooth loose in the process of their horsing around yesterday. And it is LOOSE. I was sure it was an adult tooth, but he is swearing that he hasn't lost any of his top teeth, and my mom says that he's only lost the bottoms also. LOL, how sad am I that I can't remember which teeth he's lost!

Looky looky...

Now, that was really weird that the first four came out small... Anyway, heads and wing of the three chicks that Skatter is raising right now. They are at least 1/2 faverolle... I Think the top two are boys... Also that they are 3/4 faverolle and 1/4 sussex or lt brahma...
Oh, I so remember the boys doing such things. Now we go out to eat and they sit and tell stories of their "misadventures' - it was bad enough to know the things that happened at home but there was a whole 'nother side. They tell a story about riding their bikes to the river where they would tie a rope to a tree and then to the bike. Then pedal really fast so they would jump their bikes off the bank into the river - WHERE THERE WAS QUICKSAND! The bike would be jerked back by the rope and they would go flying out into the quicksand. The goal was to see how deep they could sink. OMG! It was a good thing I didn't know about it at the time or I would have killed them - LOL! Now I see my granddaughter and how totally different she is.

I love my lt brahmas. I am really getting the bug with all these beautiful chicken pictures. So here's a somewhat silly question...can you put an apron or something on hens that prevent roosters from impregnating them? I'd like to hatch some eggs but DH doesn't want roosters but if they weren't creating MORE roosters then maybe I could do a hatch??? Probably wishful thinking.

All right ladies... Here is a book that you should add to your libraries. I have the second edition, and now I want the third... It'll have updated material...

I posted the cover so you'd know what the book looks like along with the name. This book is HUGE. It is wonderfully full of information that is back up by studies.

Hmmm... I am so naughty...
I have been thinking about getting some fertile eggs and trying a dry incubation...

Have any of you done a dry inc? Then you have to increase the humidity the day before hatch day??
I might do this in the spring so I have plenty of time to think about it
I do dry incubation every time I incubate. Just raise the humidity when they go in lockdown.

Excellent! Well, it's really early but DH is coughing and needs to get in bed so I'm off the make coffee for the morning and button everything up. Too early but I'll read for awhile. See you tomorrow. Have a good night!

I did the dry incu, I felt i had a pretty good hatch for a newb with a cheap LG! I have all the details of my hatch in my siggy link, plus the other helpful info i read that gave me ideas. One caveat, though, because of my cheap incubator i couldn't leave the house for more than a few hours at best. I had to "turn" the eggs, and DH's are not a reliable source of help when it comes to micro differences in heat. (He nearly killed mine)

Best advice i can give is to find a thread dedicated to working out the bugs of whatever model incubator you use, i used the cheap TSC still air LG with no egg turner, read at least half of it's thread (it's 100 pages!) and went with the best of the tips for my method :)

If you are still nervous, get an orpington hen this winter, come spring she'll do it for you! Much less stress, i assure you.

lol. chicken chastity belts? lol.. ..... Best i can say is either put on a diaper or don't hatch, lol.
