Fuzzy's Farm

haven't seen him in a long time now...

Anyway, Esdee died. Still, no poopy butt feathers, her crop felt like she had a good breakfast this morning after I let them out and left to go get the new cochin... I just got back home, and found her dead under the heat lamp in the garage... Thats the one you took a shine too Fuzzy, the pretty black faverolle. What could have killed her so quickly? I only noticed her not right last night...

It was just so weird... I mean, she just seemed off last night like I said. All thru the day prior, she was walking around, eating and drinking, doing her normal birdie thing, and then last night she was just standing there, under the lamp... this morning she came out with everyone else, but when I got home 2.5 hours later, she was under the lamp, on her side, wings akimbo and feet out... I was like what the!? Felt her crop, seemed full, but I don't know if she had an impacted... kinda late to cut her open and look... And her weight wasn't down any, no bugs one her, no poopy feathers. She even smelled like her normal chicken self... yes, I love the smell of my chickens... I am weird... She was one of the ones you could just walk up to and pick up. Ask fuzzy... fuzzy was able to also...

I'm sorry, Nova.

She sounds like a really neat girl. That rots. Sure does seem odd that she passed so quickly. I do think that chickens sometimes get sick and don't show us until the VERY end, when it's too late.

I hope you've all been well. I haven't been in here in awhile to chat, but I think of you guys a lot! Hope everyone's handling the cold okay. I chipped ice out of waterers this morning before work at 5 a.m. - no fun.

I hope everyone has fun... nothing like a boring shower

I didn't want the games to be embarrassing either

No, no ideas. You have wormed, have de-bugged for the year, she seemed very healthy. I loved that chicken, she was almost as friendly as my girl was. She was a big talker, stood there for 10 minutes and told me about everything. Then she let me hold her. She was so soft! I really will miss her. :( I had momentary thoughts of sticking her under the seat, she was so friendly! You know i like to hug on them.

No one else has symptoms that you've mentioned, she is not a wyendotte so shouldn't be egg bound. I'm sorry, i'm lost on this one. :( Perhaps she was one of the ones who did badly in the heat, but didn't show as bad? If they overheated they will be weakened, and if their body thermostat got broke they can't stay warm. (I forgot the technical name, hypothalimus perhaps? ) I suspect there will be many "unknown" losses this year for that reason. :(
