Fuzzy's Farm

Poor birdies! Yesterday i let them frolic in the run (had to keep them locked because of dog possibilities!) Today it's blowing and cruel :( I'm fairly certain they aren't wanting out today.

This weekend i intend to try to make some saddles up, not saying it's gonna happen, but gonna aim for it!

I'm sure DH is geeked by the snow........ he's been itching to get another deer, brought out his cousin's boy out this morning to hunt...... both of them were excited. Me, i am content to stay closer to home, lol. I will play with my birds a bit, but not for long today.

If they sewing goes well, i will speak up if i have extras :) I am thinking caramel brown would blend well with most birds. I don't want too bright, that would be like painting a big target for the hawks! lol.

I have seen families that "held together for the kids" and i have to agree that sometimes it is better if they don't . We don't have any, so at least they don't have to see us in our not-so-fine moments

That's what I tried to do with my ex, but the longer I stayed the worse it got. In hind sight, I should've left when I originally knew we wouldn't make it. So much could've been avoided.

It sure got super cold very fast today. My hands were just freezing while I was working. Time to go get some gloves.
My daughter called me to let me know our BR roo Neil was bleeding today. When they were able to get him it appeared that one of his nails had been ripped (?) off. Goodness only knows what he did. So to the doctor pen he went.

Very well said Nova. Couldn't have said it any better myself.
I agree with Robin. You are very wise, Nova.

So true...

Still cleaning after Thanksgiving. Didn't think I had this many dishes - LOL!

Today I heard the chickens going crazy. I dashed out of the house in time to see this HUGE bird fly off from above the girls run. It was either a VERY large hawk or a young eagle. Luckily the pen has aviary netting on top so he couldn't get in but the girls (and the goats) were freaked out. Wish I had a closer look at it but the wingspan had to be at least 3 ft. Thank goodness my girls are all okay.

I have the garage cleaned out. I can fit my car in there now! WOOT! I put up a 4x4 board at the open end of the top of the run. Wow, it really cut down the wind. I also hung up heat lamps in the run. They are tied and stapled in so there will be no accidental falling and fire. The one that is 250 watts hangs about 3 feet up and the on that is only 75 watts hangs about 2 feet up. So, two little warm spots. I think I will probably get a 3rd one and hang it at the other end of the run. Not heating the coop, just a few warm spots...

I went all out... bought paper plates, dinner and pie sized, and cups, and plastic silverware. Yup. TOTAL LAZY! However, We still had a poop load of dishes.

Looks like we might have a broken foot on one of Skatters chicks. I have no idea how, or what, happened to do that. I swear, I think it is the cockerels. I am so tempted to get some fence and separate the cockerels out...

If one of the big birds snatched on it's foot............... If it was a slipped tendon, you'd feel it at the joint. There would be a distinct bulge, different from the other side. Chances are though that she got snatched on. :( You could try a chick shoe to get it to heal straighter?

Plucky bird would not harm chicks, his or not. He'd go for a peck, and i'd give a whollup. After that, he knew they were "his" to watch! Henry is too young, curious and comes close and scares the poop out of the young ones. No agression that i see, though. Except at night on the roost, he is downright mean if someone gets too close! I think he's still scared in the night in there, i've only had him for a couple months though so it should get better. "blue" the red rooster, is on my *s* list on account of picking on anything littler than him. I do not want to make the call, but in my heart i'm sure that to get through the winter he will have to go. :( "maurice" (porcelain d'uccle) is so tiny! He will try for a peck as well, but a good holler scares him straight! He is growing handsome by the day, learning to crow and getting his big boy feathers! :)

My coop is a good size, but during the winter they don't like to go out and i do not want ANY COMPETITION for the water dish!!!

Has anyone else had a 8 week cockeral that was mean already?? I have one of this batch that i already want to put down :( He is downright nasty to his siblings, snatching on their heads and chasing and snatching. :( when i go out they are lined up on their perch, no one wants to come down to see me....... after coaxing, i saw him do it and am certain that he's scaring them from coming down. That would leave me only needing to rehome the two pullets, and though i don't like it i know if anyone adopted him he'd likely be put down anyway.

So that leaves me the red roo, and this little one that needs to go, But i will have henry and maurice to keep; the white and blue cockeral from this batch if i keep him.

How are you Robin? Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. We had John's mom and brother here, and it was a nice dinner. We had way more pie than we needed. Pumpkin, sweet potato, banana cream, pecan, and mouse cheese cake... SO, we are in pie for a while. I am thinking of wrapping the sweet papa pie and freezing it... It'll freeze right?

The 2# turkey breast was very yummy. Ham was ham. LOL. I made to much mashed potato... I put sour cream, chive and onion cream cheese, butter, milk and egg in it, and some garlic and pepper... BEST ones I ever made. Now, though, I am going to have to oil the skillet and make tater cakes out of the left overs.
I am good Nova. Went to my daughters for Thanksgiving. Spent some time with my grandson. Chesecake hs always been my favorite but that mouse (SP?) stuff I never could get a grasp on, but my daughter made one of those cheesecakes and it was really good. I'm looking at it asking her what did you do to it ? Cheesecake isn't suppose to look like that, it's too fluffy. But it was good. I made my famous chocolate cream pie. My kids and grandkids will kill for that lol. And it's nothing but cooked pudding put into a graham cracker crust with cool whip on top.

They always say " Mom, you got to bring chocolate pie."
Glad you had a good day.
