Fuzzy's Farm

oh, I am sorry Pi. That sucks. you have light and save a chick? I had my dogs play with one of my chicks like a chew toy and I kept it inside with heat, save a chick soft feed for a few days, and at the end of 2 days, i returned him to his mama. HE was fine. Just kept him warm and still for a few days...

No, he already died. :( even if he did make it I doubt he would have any quality of life. His entire bottom and the area around his left leg was gone, and there was bits of intestines hanging out. I also found something unidentifiable in the run. :( I saw my dog go after the hen, and I think he actually stepped on the chick and got him with his claws or something......he plays with the chickens, but he's NEVER attacked one and tried to eat it. But he'll run up to hens who are being messed with by roos (the hen was), and chase the roos away, I think that's what he tried to do and the chick just got stuck in the middle. :(

That is so sad, Pi! But you are not a bad person. You obviously cared a lot about him. It would be hard for me to take the life of a poor chick, too. I am so sorry. I am glad he has passed, though. No more pain.

@MsBagawkbagawk, I know how you feel. Read all of below.

Wow, I haven't been on in a while. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. Mine was kinda a bummer.

The Rooster That Refused To Die! 100% True, And Very Disturbing! Don't Read If You Have A Weak Heart!!!

We had 2 of our dogs kill 2 chickens. First, our stupid dog, Lucky, killed Alaska, the JG hen, and Miska almost killed Sandy, the Naked Neck roo. She didn't finish him off. She had torn his abdomen, and his bowel was ripped open. His poo was all in his wound, and he was not in good shape! Why couldn't have Miska have at least finished him off?! The worst part was, she was just sitting there, kinda pawing at him and slinging him around by his legs, and then kinda pouncing on him! I wanted to knock her senseless! But I couldn't... Instead, I took the poor, mangled roo away from her. I put him in a tuperware bucket in the barn and got my dad. He agreed to shoot the poor roo.

That should have gone the same way it had gone for the other roosters who had died by a shotgun: One shot and that's it. But it didn't. Dad loaded the shotgun, the same one that had killed the other roos, and he took aim. I hadn't gotten far enough away and heard perfectly well the loud bang that followed. I also heard something else. A chicken's pained squawking! I ran back, just in time to see dad shoot the rooster again! He was still squawking! Finally, on the third shot, Dad shot the head off. That ended it, but it was very, very, very, very, very traumatic for me! I was crying this time! I was in charge of taking the bodies to their location. So, like always, I picked up this now dead roo by his feet. He was actually flopping like crazy, and it was very difficult to carry him without getting sprayed with blood.

Unfortunately, it was very windy outside, and, as a result, I got blood all over my pants, shirt, and shoes. There were even a few flecks on my face.

I still need to get the blood off my shoes. That was very disturbing for me and I cannot believe that it actually was that way. It still confuses me. The bullet went straight through the chest, piercing his heart (I think), and the second bullet went in the exact same place. The third bullet shot the head. It just confuses me. My dad just kinda shrugged it off, he really does not care. I feel really, really sad. I hope the poor creature did not suffer.

Nerves will keep a chicken moving after dead, even if they are decapitated they will run about the yard. I'm sure your bird did not suffer, as traumatic as it was. :(

I gave the word on my red rooster, "blue". :( It sucks, but he tried to get on a hen that was roosting, and that's just too much for this little coop. , this guy knocked his sis right off the perch after essentially mauling her, he just does not get what he's supposed to be doing. The other rooster is not doing that. Blue's always trying, i think he's gonna be like his daddy.......... I can't handle another rooster related death. I know plucky didn't mean what happened, but all the same.......

Why not? He's more than 6 months now, if it wasn't so cold i think cookie would be laying! Her comb is red and the roosters are paying her special attention, so.... One of the millie roos that i have in the little chicken shack tried with me when he was only 4 weeks!!!! Don't get that, but it was hormones run amuck i suppose.

I think that's what is wrong with the 8 week roo(let) he has a huge red comb for his size, too much testosterone! He's plucky's son too........

If things go ok i still want orloffs, so not worried about needing a roo right now. I'm sure there will be at least one, chicks do run 50/50! Otherwise i have maurice, the tiny porcelain roo. He's what i need, porcelain is a lavender pattern...... The first set of chicks will be black, carrying the lav. Breed hens back to roo, then you get lav pattern! OK, not quite so simple but in a few generations...........

don't mind me if i sound silly at some point, deli chicken and strawberry hill over here, rock music. Relaxing in my own way :D I Don't make a habit of it, but sometimes i just need to be alone with my thoughts and throw the logic out the window :)
