Where in the heck is everyone!
Made my last CX for dinner tonight. Bummer... I really need to get more in my freezer. This one was so good! I slow cooked instead of roasted. Man, talk about juicy! AND HERE IS THE SUCKY PART! It is my night to do dishes. Why didn't I do an easy dinner for tonight... LOL
I had my first exploding egg today. Very gross. I heard commotion, so I ran out the door... Everything was ok, so I checked the garage birds and saw that Skeeter had pushed her last egg out of the nest. It was cold, so I figured if she's pushed it out after this long, then it aint hatching. I took a screw driver and tapped the end that the air sac was on, and started to peal back the shell carefully, just in case... didn't look right and then POP! OMG! My coat, my pants... covered in icky yellow goo. Never developed.
AND NOW! I just went out to give some of the left over dinner to the birds and I realised that I wasn't hearing any chick peeping... I don't know what happened, but there was broken egg from today in her nest, and the chick was dead and covered in yolk. I am would surmise that one of the others flew up to clear the fencing I put up to protect Skeeter and her chick and got in the nest... AND poor little chick got trampled. So sad... I was just saying that it was going to suck when it was old enough for mom to leave, that it'd be lonely... Now, I am going to have to put Skeeter up on the roost tomorrow night since she doesn't have any chicks to show for her last month of brooding... Anyone have chicks they just hatched today, yesterday? LOL. Gammit!
