Ok, so opening the bator made the clear membrane shrink. OR the low humidity during day 18 and 19 caused shrinking (55)
Still trying to figure the breathing thing, i have read both that once they pip internally they MUST pip external or they run out, and others say that the egg shell is breathable. I'm going with the stuck and couldn't breathe, since there wasn't any extra liquid to drown him.
FYI, those cheap outdoor hydrogometors can test "off" and be right!
Mine tested at 10% under and ended up being dead-on, to the best of my understanding. During the incubation i did dry and it ran at 32-34, which made me think it was much higher but couldn't have been since i ran the air conditioner and if anything it should have been UNDER. So at day 18-19 when it ran at 55 steady i wasn't worried; but after i thought about it i boosted the humidity to 60-64 just in case, and that's when chicks started pipping like crazy! I boosted at day 20 early on and by 11:30 that night they were pipping! So lesson learned.
Night guys. I give up for the night, i'll try again another day. I always feel better when i understand things! It's how i trouble shoot for future misshaps.
I am still feeling good, all in all. Losing one to a mistake (plus the quitter, the eggs that never even started) Is a good score for a newb.
Getting cocoa's present hatched was priceless in itself, i hadn't dared to hope.
My my my... I gotta go pick up my kid. This school of choice thing... They do not provide bussing. Of course, I am not going to send my kid to the school he's supposed to go to. Some little poop of a boy threatened to shoot my baby in the head last year... Have to make a feed store run too. Going to build that last feeder that Olive told me how to build. Man, those things are WONDERFUL! I have not had a spilled feed problem like I was. Except where the new chicks are... And that is cuz the big girls are greedy and tip their little feeders over.
I still want to build a bigger rabbit-style feeder to hang on my wall. I made a smaller version out of a macaroni box for my chickies! lol. I like it and they like the yellow box.
