My coop complex is now an island... Or it has its own moat... Back yard has monster puddles, fast becoming ponds. I am off to work now. Great day! I am taking soap and shampoo. May as well get in a shower with all this rain.
My coop is no longer an island, or has a moat. It is now a flood plain. There is high ground in the run, but all the edges are a swamp. Under all the coops, where the birds would normally get their dirt baths on, it is mud pit central. The big coop, the original winter run turned coop, has several inches of water. Had one nest box flooded. I am assuming that happened after some eggs were laid, with the down pour from this after noon. The several down pours that is. SO, some of those heavy butt skids I picked up last year to make a floor in that coop, then decided I hated it, prefered the dirt, took half back out, well, I put several back in so that the chicks wouldn't drown trying to get into the coops tonight, and to try and keep the chickens from getting soaked as well. God what a mess in there. My back yard has NEVER flooded like this. I am thinking I may build a berm all the way around, OR add in several yards of soil in all the low places in the run, bring it up several inches... I don't know. I just know it is freaking awful. I hope it dries up soon...
AND to top it all off, I don't have muck boots. I have to walk through water that is several inches above my ankles to get to the coop, and yeah.
OH, and guess what? It is still raining here in good old Holland!
Sounds like you've had a bad day Nova! Sorry, I had one yesterday chasing bantams that have the chicks my dang dog scared them out of nest box clean over into woods. After sweating and a fish net and lots of exercise I got both of them! Wanted to beat the, didn't of course.. She's a bird dog! What did I expect? Lol but as for the rain I know where you are here in southern Ms. We got hammered with severe storm today and my chicken coops are all full of water, gotta go get new hay in morning so they aren't walking in 3 inches of mud! Glad my chicks are in the small coop that's waterproof. Good luck with water situation. Have good night everyone...
Aw. Sorry Nova. I had put my banties out into the little summer coop, but it's so drafty...... felt awful when i got up this morning to huge gusts of icy wind! So back into the dog crate in the camper for them I had switched out my little hope to live in there, she actually liked the protection being such a softy.
I wish my camper was in better condition, and that it was legal to move. Needs a roof and someone to re-do the wood support beams on the corners and in the rotted parts of the walls though. Cheaper to buy another , me thinks. Otherwise i'd donate it, it does make a nice shelter for bad weather and for the winter. Not so great come summer, but if i had fans.....
I am hoping that the weekend is a marginal bit better, i was planning on getting those vinyl? pieces i showed you last summer just in case I/ someone wanted to re do the camper, but found out this afternoon that our friends sold their property in 2 days without even saying it was for sale! So DH is all upset, don't even know if he HAS a goat anymore. And he has a bunch of hunting blinds that will have to be moved by this weekend as well.
Sorry everyone has so much rain and much and mess and chasing today ...athena is fascinated a little much with my bantam chicks so trying to teach her right from the get go ... had some minor incubator flunctuations today but everything seems ok for now ... when i candled last i had 7/11 with great veining !!! goooooo little bantam eggs lol
Today was a semi rough day here just got up in an off mood and the day went kinda down hill from there ..but i will live and go on .... hows everyone else doing that hasnt checked in
that sucks about the property and having to move blinds in one weekend fuzzy ... if i was around id try to help you fix the camper .. i am sure there are youtubes videos i could learn from about that too !!
Spent the day out doing stuff with DH. We haven't had a chance to do that in weeks and since we had a gift card to Olive Garden we went there for lunch. Nice part of that, too, was we filled up on the breadsticks and endless soup bowls and then brought most of our meals home to have a meal later with.
Tomorrow it's back to the soggy grind. Really not looking forward to that. Actually, really not looking forward to the whole next week. (Nova, cover your ears), the forecast is nothing but rain, rain, and more rain. Blah!
As for the chickens, they haven't been out since Tuesday. I don't want them to get soaked just to stay that way for who knows how long. Not to mention, on Tuesday the dog from the neighbor to the west cam to our yard and started barking at my son and dog. These neighbors are about 1/4 mile away so this is not cool that they are letting their dog just roam like this. I didn't want the chickens out in case it came back and went for them. Might have to make a call if it continues. At any rate, DH wants to let the cooped up group out tomorrow. We'll see.
Tee don't forget mother nature was talking about throwing us snow showers. Don't know which is worse right now!
Nova did you check CL for a boat? Might work better than boots! Sorry for your birds. Know what it had been like when I had a lake out at coop and running in (from snow melt). I thought I would have to build rafts for my birds. Sorry yours are having to learn how to swim! Hope they are all ok. How Florus?
