Still no new hatches. Pretty sure at this point there won't be.

Well... I have a few dead hens for nothing at all. Turns out it isn't/wasn't water pump at all. Turns out I have a blown/cracked head gasket. It's causing back pressure/steam, blowing the fluid. SO... My accidental spill/geizer from the radiator... Well anyway, I am still very pithed off at myself over that...

Anyway, I feel like I am talking to myself lately. LOL, So... Here is a run down of what the heck has been going on in my corner of MI/world...

I candled the eggs last night. TOTALLY awesome to see all those little wiggling embryos. A few of the yoko eggs, both the reds and whites, have saddle shaped aircells. The chicks themselves look to be developing pretty good though. The polish are developing and are the most active of them all! SO, that's all good.

Neighbors chickens (leggerns and asl's) have found their way into my coop and feeders. LOL, I will get a pic of them later. It's a funny thing to me. I very much do not mind it. Mine will go and raid theirs also, en masse. LOL.

I am trying to decide if I am going to eat Florus. He is what rhymes with clucking glass mole. PM me if you can't figure this one out on your own.

A month or so ago, found out that my dad's best friend has liver cancer. At that time they figured it was final stages already. He's diabetic, heart problems, kidney problems. No, he's never been a drinker or a drug user. Cancer, however, runs in his family. They went ahead and tried the chemical chemo, give some hope. They've taken him off the chemical chemo, it was just making things worse. Now all they can do is make him comfortable until the end. This man has been a strong pillar for his kids and friends and family. He was a big man. To see him laid low like this...

I am being maudlin. Seems that this month for me has been one crap fest to another.

I candled Patties new batch... I know I said I wouldn't, but I was itching to see if Noodles eggs that are under her were growing... no such luck. I have seen the roo on her... he must have a horrible aim!
However, the pair of Shawarma's eggs that are under her are spidery!!!! YAY! I hope I can get some NN sizzle UGGOS going!!!!

I WILL NOT CANDLE THEM ANYMORE!!! I SWEAR!!!!

You know they say 'when it rains, it pours'. Sorry it's your turn for the storms, Nova. I hope your dad's friend can find some peace during this time and that when his time comes that it isn't painfully prolonged.

As for candling, that's great that the eggs were still good for you, Nova. And good for yours, too, Byfm. Only one chick for the bsl, but I do need to get out there and see if any of the eggs beneath the barred and the jersey are good. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out there a bit later.

UGH! Just got back in from checking broody eggs. I accidentally dropped an egg (it wasn't good) and, man, the stink! Still gagging a bit from that. Anyway, I marked 14 eggs as potentials from broody 2 and 5 from broody 3. Going to move the broodies around a bit tomorrow to get them out of the nest boxes and then give the coop a cleaning.

thou shall not tell lies! You will candle again... You won't be able to control yourself! Lol. Wait, that might be me. I showed my nephew a wiggler tonight. He's not afraid of the chickens while they are 1) in the egg developing; 2) in the freezer section; 3) cooked. Hahaha!

Got some thunder rolling through right now. Just saw on fb that there were 3 possible tornadoes in Genesee County and warnings are going off in K-zoo. Everyone stay safe out there.

We had no excitement here in Oakland Co... I like it that way.
Got rain, a little thunder, and lots of humidity!!!!

My son and I were real loafs yesterday, then he woke me up at 3am with a fever

Said he had a headache and a sore throat before bed...
I hoped it was just the weather change that made us so lazy.
I am the kind of person that doesn't realize I am sick until I am biting off heads and all I want to do is sleep.... Seems DS will be the same way.

I WILL NOT CANDLE... I WILL NOT CANDLE!!!!
But should I take away the ones that are still clear so she can focus on the ones that are developing?
I don't want stinkers like Tees! Ewwww!!!!

Take them away. I guarantee you don't want a stinker. It's still turning my stomach a bit.

I actually tossed about 15 or so myself last night. No way do I want a repeat of that.

Not too much happened here from the storms, either. It did manage to knock down the fencing around the broccoli so I had to go out there and fix it so the terrible I'll eat anything chickens couldn't get to the plants. I call them that because I went out this morning to buy flowers for the front of the house, came home and thinking they would be safe from the chooks, put the trays on top of my buick so I could get a few things done before planting them. I swear the second I stepped into the house, I looked out the window and there was a darn isa in them pecking.

Had to run out there and DS and I put the trays in the mudroom and blocked it off so even the cats are locked out. Only one plant seemed to have taken a hit. Honestly, I didn't just go spend that money for a doofin' chicken to eat it.
