Hope everyone had a good safe 4th! I'm glad it's over too. My dogs terrified so we don't do fire works. Didn't sell my two bantam Roos so gave them to friend to put with hers! Yeah! Was over run with them. Have great night all...
They're still popping them off at the campground down the road from us. It's getting annoying now that we are a few days past the holiday and it's midnight.
Anyway, I've been popping in and out and just thought I'd say hi and I'm doing okay over here in my corner of the mitt.
They still had the darn fireworks tents up and selling yesterday... I think yesterday was the last day they could sell. Legally, you're only supposed to light them off in the 3 days before, and the 3 days after... a lot of people do not know that though...
I personally like to see them. I do not like to hear them. SO, watching them on tv with the volume down is perfectly acceptable to me. AND I don't get eaten by skeeters.
So far... so good on the coop change.
ALSO, I think I might be having my first case of cocci with a yokohama. She's puffed up and hunched in. I was looking at their poos, and don't really see anything, but, I think I will give the amporilium feed for the next few weeks. Hope I don't have to treat with corrid. Or I will have to keep them all locked up so the big girls don't eat or drink their food... She's also become my darling. She comes right up to me, lets me pick her up and hold her as long as I want... So, will totally bum me out if she's sick and all... So hard to treat chicks...
Got all the birds treated last night for the lice issue before heading out the door to work. Man... it was a long sticky night. Going to be a long sticky day...
Oh Nova, I understand. Yesterday was terrible at work because of it. I was drenched within minutes and had to stay that way until I was done. Forecast says humid for the next 3-4 days. Not looking forward to it especially Monday. They have me scheduled for a route I haven't done in well over a year so I'll be moving slower when I'm sorting it out which means a later delivery start time which means I'll be out there at the hottest worst point of it. Makes me miserable just thinking about it.
darn nova. I don't know whether to think you got the issues from your neighbor's birds or from the new batch? The lice is def from them though, he got his from auction and prob didn't treat. That place is a louse motel, if you look carefully you can see them climbing on the walls! Eeek. I stop in there time to time and see what's in, but most people won't bring birds there anymore including me so not much is there.
I gotta treat mine again too, those blasted neighbor's of mine's birds are sooooo bad and they refuse to treat! And they flew up over my fence to my run, and went through the little fence in the middle and took out almost all of my flowerbed I'm so done with this. Not birds, just this.
Anyone know anyone who wants some EE hens, and a little group of d'uccles? I would want some d'uccle babies in the future, so only good homes where they are intended to be kept as a breed. I do NOT want to give up the d'uccles, if the little roo wasn't so loud i might smuggle him in. I am going to try to smuggle in Hope's brother with her, he hasn't crowed once. I think he squeaked once and henry nailed him..... Anyway he is so submissive the girls are still picking out his tail and he's small for a roo, he's small like his momma. Both traits are what i'm breeding for, and if he doesn't crow even better! I'll try it for a bit and see what happens. If he crows he's gotta go. He hasn't tried crowing or mounting even when i kicked henry out of the coop for several days, so .......?
Henry has pushed his last straw for me i think. Girls are still acting nervous, and yesterday he took out my kneecap when i let them out and turned around to let them all out the run gate. I moved slow and didn't make any agressive motions, so.......... he's a beautiful boy but i do not want to adopt him out and have someone get hurt.
No, the lice is only on a few birds. My birds do nothing but hang in the trees. I know Carls birds probably have it too, since a large majority of his new pullets hang with mine all day... Oh.. he raised those gals from chicks too, so they're not auction birds. I do believe he is done with the auction after last years fiasco. And i'd rather deal with the lice versus the pain in the butt mites.
I brought the yoko in. She is the only one exhibiting any distress. The other birds are all acting normal. I have her on a white towel (it's old) to monitor her poop. I have probios in her water, medicated feed and poultry drench. She's having a conniption in the kitchen right now. Poor girl. Aimee, you'd love this one. Not kidding. You'd be... cuddle buddies.
Mama LP is still holding her own. I do not think she liked the red cote treatment last night. It's so hard to get the triple A in, but I can get the red cote in every where with the dauber. She'll be on fish mox starting tomorrow. I am getting it from pet co. Also getting albon from the vet for the yoko, and going to see if I can sucker the vet into stopping in...
Nova hope all your birds get well, seems you get more than your share of sick and injured birds. Glad you have the knowledge to care for them. I'm learning but they are a lot of work and I just wing it or ask you! Lol. Got a home for my bantam Roos. Named them heckle and jeckle. Miss Liz loves them. Now im down to 5 roosters! Yeah! And no more broody hens for me anytime soon last. Two was a complete disaster. No eggs hatched. At all, and ended up taking them from the hens after 29 days of nothing. Was a nasty stinky scary mess! Guess all of you have been there? Next time there won't be a next time! Chicks are awesome, but only 2 good broody hens are my bantams. They are great mamas. Mean, but good. Have great day everyone.
I live in a heavy wooded area. Mites, lice, wild birds carrying problems... Its expected. I wouldn't have any probe if I never let them out. I don't believe in that...
I got good news/ sad news the last couple days; i got another toad! He hopped up when i started digging in my fern bed yesterday. I fed him a couple worms, and hoped he'll stick around.
Sad news, my silver and blue roo is going the way of star if i don't let DH off Henry. Even the girls pick on him terrible, he is now down to eating non-food items even when i try to isolate him away from the others. He still has an appetite away from them, but with them he's not eating and don't weigh anything. I tried putting henry in the goat pen again today to give the flock a break, but he just flies right over and stresses everyone by running around frantically trying to get in. I really don't wanna, but he IS spurring me randomly and he IS balding my girl's heads and necks, backs........ I miss plucky roo right now. I'll put up with crap, but i don't like it when the hens are stressed. Plucky was always so nice to the girls, and didn't muss them. Everyone got wormed today and i have been bringing canned cat food off and on to nurse silver hopefully.
I also tried bringing hope home, but she was scared to death, so i brought her back; i'll try it off and on so she gets used to the newness and isn't terrified; i also have it in mind that i asked the office to bring ONE bird home and i already have sharma and the babies, so...... maybe i'll start working harder at it when she goes back out.
