Fuzzy's Farm

I fear hepatitis. I tried to get the shot against it (because i work in a nursing home) but i got really sick. So i haven't tried it again, but probably should if i stay working here much longer.

i lost my white rooster today. I got a true migraine yesterday evening, and couldn't go out to tend to them. The others were fine, but he was barely lingering as it is and didn't eat pellets. In my mind i know i was only prolonging his existence by loving him and giving him the cat food to keep him eating his meager bit, but in my heart i feel sick to my soul.

He had gotten spunkier with the feedings, but even with a week of them his stool never hardened and never got the white cap. If it was lack of feed wouldn't a week of help have gotten him better? It had to have been back when the insulation got attacked, shortly after he had come to manhood and lost to henry. He was depressed and went for alternate foods, before i caught him and i thought i had caught it in time. It must have damaged his insides. I know that he couldn't have gone on with damage like that, it is just hard to accept. My prettiest rooster.

He was plucky's only remaining son and the only one i wanted to breed with. I am giving my birds up for sure now, i have to for now. I can't keep them there when i'm here, too much loss. A few days back i had discovered that the skunk had desecrated the graves of my buried birds, including my cocoa and plucky. I have to make my decision about hope now.

I miss you guys right now. I hope you are having better days than i've had? I feel like a thread killer a little.

last night i searched for hours and couldn't find any adult birds that died from eating insulation; only one story about chicks. Most agreed that the bird just pooped it out, including the fiberglass kind.

Which brings me back to internal problems maybe.

Do any of you know whether a vet could test an old dropping?
I had planned on bringing him in, but he didn't make it. This one was worth it to me. Just didn't have the $$$ when i needed it. This is tearing me up, the not knowing.

I hate the not knowing too. Not sure if they'd be able to test now. I do think you were looking at organ failure though. Green poo, loose stools for that long. Really sorry fuzzy. I understand about you wanting to give up on the birds too. I don't think I could do it if I had to drive to bfe every day...

I hit the motherload on free blueberries tonight. Farmer on the corner lost several crates off of his truck, he left them there! The neighbors, several people from the apartments, and me went a scooping. I got 5 meijer bags full. About 50#! Chickens are going to be super happy! Going to make some pie, jam, tarts and freeze too. After a cleaning that is. They do use crop dusters over there...

Aw, Fuzzy, you're not a thread killer. I think everyone's just got so much going on that we don't always get a chance to pop in.
I can't really help you with your questions. I can only say that our chickens have a tendency to peck at styrofoam insulation sheets if they can get near them and we never lost any of them to it. As for old droppings, I don't see why they couldn't, but then, I really don't know about that. Sorry.

Hi All. Thanks for the good wishes. DH had his gall bladder surgery yesterday and is doing fine. We won't know about the liver until the liver biopsy is analyzed.

Yeah, Nova. Hepatitis is a really nasty virus. You don't know you have it until it's done so much damage. Same thing with the HPV virus. Thanks goodness they've got the vaccine for young girls now as cervical cancer is not something to mess with.

Fuzzy, I know what you mean about wanting to give them up. I think you've done amazing things for so long. It's got to be completely tiring. And I'm so sorry about your rooster. Such a bummer.

Hi Tee, Hi Savannah. Yeah, I know what you mean about being busy and not getting on here a lot. I do love you all. Maybe when fall gets here we'll have more time.

Turned my coop's outside into a storybook coop. I'll take a pic and show you what it looks like.

Notice how they are not pushing the hpv vac like they were? It was causing death reactions, and they were finding it sterilized girls... Very sad. Its still available, but they aren't PUSHING it any more... I think with any vac there is risk... I think abstaining and testing should be done for girls and boys, and though I am not saying its like permission, but girls need to go forth armed with knowledge and condoms.

would it be too personal to ask how he got it? I can't even imagine how you both are feeling right now. Survived a tornado but gets struck down with hepatitis. Kinda like alanis morsett's "isn't it ironic" song. :/ You both have been in my thoughts much lately, hoping for the best.

Will his dr work with herbs as well as traditional medicine? There are a few herbs that are ok for ongoing use that help detox the liver for stuff like this? Milk thistle springs to mind off the get but idk how they interact with meds.
